Pulled the trigger just before dates disappeared after I couldn't convince a mate to join me.

Leaving Melb 23 April and back on the 27th for a whirlwind 2.5 day trip!

I'll sit on this and consider the free cancellation if anything changes my mind in the next 24 hours...

ok i sussed it...now i can book pretty much any date for $254 USD ...too funny

Thank you to the OP - booked in myself, Mrs smatho10, Ms smatho10 3yo and Ms smatho10 6 month year old - May 16 - 23 SYD-LAX at $756 USD - great work everyone, but my god still sceptical in what the next 24 hours brings.

Did not choose seats but was allocated row 25 DFG and 27 DFG - came up on my bookings on my velocity profile. But "The system has detected that your itinerary does not qualify for online changes"

Will need bassinet row though - may cool my heals for a bit before calling the gold line.

Oh and that epic tweet to Kayne today - you sly dog...

do share your ways!
OK well it took me a while to work it out but, google search your dates until you find a "Red" cheap deal. Example $750 via Virgin. Click on it and then click the return. it will then show Orbitz as the deal price $254. Hope that makes sense.

Booked 14th April MEL-BNE-LAX returning 17th April LAX-BNE-MEL.

If it tickets, I've got my connections sorted through the Velocity AMEX (PER-SYD) then pay connection to MEL or maybe I'll open up a Platinum Edge card and go straight over ;)

Well i got sucked in and now have to work out exactly how i will manage to scam my way out of 5 days in LA when i have no leave left....haha! $700 AUD for 2 in August? Can't be missed! Already on my Itinery too!

Ticket nos. have been issued with my bookings. Prefix 795.

I've paid travel insurance sold with tickets and Allianz has confirmed cover.

Are we even eligible for that insurance? I booked it to but is it coverable as we arent residents of the US. When you click the Terms and Conditions it asks you what state you reside in so not sure hey.

My kids teachers are going to kill me, taking them out of school twice in a year :-I
also, anyone have a suggestion on how I tell my boss I need two weeks off in Aug/Sept when I have minus annual leave at current and I go away in March for 3 weeks to the US using those Qantas tickets from July lol.

Booked my own tickets. VA1 and VA2. Wonder if T class is upgradeable to business?

Likewise! My poor colleagues. I manage to go overseas about once a month, taking a couple of days off each time. However, this time I actually have a decent excuse. Everyone speaks the language of 'sale'.

It's not sadly :(

Best we can do is an upgrade bid to PE. I'm getting $500 (BNE-LAX) and $600 (LAX-SYD) as the minimum.

Hoping it goes down closer to departure.
