At these events do you actually discuss peoples airline, hotel etc questions like you do in threads or is it more of a social catch up eg discuss work family etc not that I expect there's any restriction on topics but just curious.
Conversation is always pretty easy, as the thing we have in common is the travel. At these events, you can walk up to a stranger in the group and start talking travel eg which airline do you prefer to fly to NZ?
As it is a fluid group situation with people moving around from group to group, the topics tend to keep moving as well.
Whether I have met someone many times or not, I may still only talk miles & points & travel. With someone else, we/I'll mention things closer to home. But it always goes back to the main thing that we're all a bit OCD about..
So, yes, the conversation can be like the threads. If you have a burning question, or something has happened, and you want opinions on how the hotel / airline handled it, then this is great time to ask. The spoken word, and in person, is rarely misunderstood, not like the written word can be!
I always come away having learnt several new things at least, & other fine tuning on what I thought I knew. The programmes are constantly changing, and we all have different travel patterns & destinations, so the knowledge is always changing.
Hope this helps NZflygirl
