I should add that as I will soon be an unemployed bum in the UK, I'm open to job offers. Any thing that involves international J class travel will be highly welcomed. ;):p

FIFO 28/28 as paramedic / RN on an oil rig (land) in the PNG jungle. Also studying my masters part-time.

I am the MD/owner of multiple retail stores/business's in the sex industry. Have been doing this successfully now for 25 years.

I am an executive of my industry's trade/lobbying body based in Canberra and one of several who have recently founded Australia's newest political organisation The Australian Sex Party.

This has allowed me at a personal level to spend most of my private life working in, and as a benefactor to, regional/rural anti violence initatives, rural youth suicide prevention & HIV Aids prevention/services, censorship, civil liberty's and social justice projects.
My travel involves political candidacy's in the past and present, seats on a range of committe's and groups both private sector and govn't. I travel internationally yearly to Berlin, LA, Palm Springs and Jburg for trade/industry, conferences/tradeshows.
Domestic to most capitals multiple times annually.

Recreational travel could see me anywhere several times a year, although l tend to add on to business travel.
I am self funded for all travel except some business industry stuff, and mostly premium cabins. I have to many FF Miles because l can never use the b#*@*y things.

Life is never boring for me!

I wonder if I've met you. If not, I definitely know someone who you would also know. Also quite big in the sex industry and was a part of the ASP forming as well as interests in Eros, etc. (not me, they are!!!).

Anyway, I work in IT as a Systems Engineer and do about 10% work travel these days with 90% of it being leisure. This is largely due to being based out of the UK and travel being so darn cheap. Previously I was about 30% business 70% self funded.

IT Consultant for multinational company with it's HQ in Seattle.

Since starting mid last year, I think I've had maybe 3 or 4 weeks where I haven't been on a plane somewhere. 95% of my travel is domestic, but we do overflow in APAC. Last week was MEL-SYD-JKT-SYD-MEL, starting from tomorrow is MEL-SIN-ADL-MEL. Work authorises Y travel only, I try to upgrade to J internationally with points where possible.

Still in the travel honeymoon period, quite enjoy the quiet periods without my 4 and 2 year olds and the nagging wife from time to time ;) And after visiting Jakarta for the first time, I will never ever complain about traffic in Australia ever again!

This one sounds like a very interesting job and the best one mentioned so far on AFF!

As a CPA and Chartered Secretary for about 40 years I really hope I don't have to go back into professional practice with all those clients worrying about having too much or too little money.
Our latest investment is a social housing group of boarding houses that are being built to code to reduce homeless numbers in my home town. We are hoping to house several hundred and get them back into society without government help. My partner in this is a builder and we have two running and two sites to develop.
I see homeless people around Brisbane city almost every day and think wouldn't it be nice if someone was able to build some basic accommodation for them.

Well done. Great to hear you are involved in these projects.

Recording and Broadcast Producer in the arts industry. If you like opera, chances are you've seen or heard my work. And - a couple of my shows are about to appear on Qantas IFE in the next few months.

By the way, do any of you own a software company with manufacturing in Sri Lanka? I sat next to a lovely bloke on a MEL-SYD flight last week who told me that's what he did. We chatted quite a bit about travel. He was a bit of a travel nerd, so I thought for sure he must be on here!:D

I work in mining construction for an American Engineering & Construction company. Work related flying depends upon the project. The larger mining projects take me to places like Newman and Karratha, and interstate and occasionally international to see equipment suppliers and fabrication shops. In the past I used to work on a FIFO basis, but the past few years has seen me work more in Perth.

Privately, we are fortunate to earn enough to fund our own DONE4's, though with my wife currently not working (she's expecting) it's tougher than before.

Really? Never picked that! (Perhaps I should lay off the "NoNews" jokes a little while you're around)!
Hmmm ... not so sure ...

These days when I see "russ" posting my mind auto redefines it to "russ:p".

Retired. :D

After 40+ years in aviation, both military and civilian, I last flew in anger just over two years ago. :(

During that time I have been to many interesting, and not so interesting places, met many and varied people and had a whole bunch of really great times and experiences. A few near misses, a few scares but generally a good time and with no regrets. :D

I'm looking ahead to a few things on the horizon but nothing too arduous. ;)

After over 40 years in aviation I reckon you'd have some pretty good stories to tell. You should think about writing a book.

At the very minimum, his anecdotes and recounts make for excellent drinking conversation. :)

I'm the MD of a baby products company I own and we manufacture in China and sell worldwide, so I am very fortunate enough to travel frequently internationally - mostly to China, but also to Europe and the US, last year also got to go to Japan.

It's all in Y though, being a new company, I recently started telling everyone to at least get exit rows since we can't afford Y+ just yet haha. Thanks to the great info here, I am usually able to get a good non exit row seat by doing a little research :)

One day I hope we will be doing well enough to be able to introduce Y+ or even J to our travel policy.

I am also very fortunate that I have been able to take my kids on lots of adventures with me on points as well, they are very lucky and well travelled kids for 5 and 8! One of my 8 yr old son's greatest pleasures was doing a J flight with me to HK on points and now he always asks if we are going J , so not sure he will be doing much Y flying when he's older haha

Up until I read this I was going to write that I had the best job in the world!!!

I work for one of the largest media groups in the country. The bulk of my job is now project management for major events (Technology and logistics).

This means i get to go to local events like the Tennis, Formula 1, Melbourne Cup, AFL Grand Final to name a few.

Globally I have done the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. Working on London at the moment, as well as the Rugby World Cup. Soccer World Cup is also on the list.

I have a box full of Accreditations at home of events over the last 15 years. And in that time I have seen some amazing events: Bolt jogging (he didn't sprint! ;) ) to win the 100m in Beijing, Makybe Diva winning 3 Melbourne Cups, The opening Ceremony in Beijing and Melbourne, travelling with the Olympic Torch around Australia. The list goes on.

Most of my travel is co-ordinating these events but on my down time I also run training and support on our image systems.
