That is a beautiful piece! Wouldn't want to have to check it in though.

When I got it I thought the same, but it started taking collateral pretty quickly and so I just thought what the hell and checked it in - and they honestly look more authentic the more battered they are. It’s one of the few stupidly
expensive things that I’ve bought that I honestly think has saved me money in the longer term. I sort of weakened and purchased a cool looking fancy new plastic number with a 10 year guarantee etc etc etc in Italy a few months ago - 3 trips later after a reasonably firm compress the zip on one side has already gone and one of the wheels has got bashed. I’m sure I could get it fixed but I don’t need the hassle…

I knew Crumpler went out of business but did not realise they were now reinvented.
….backpack style is not for me as I dont need all the compartments as packing cubes can overcome (straps/pockets/zips etc adding too much weight for me).
I also always keep my valuables/CC close to body in small bag so would not use these features in any case (pun intended)….. that said, its a bit like cookbooks - I love looking at luggage sites and exploring new brands…plus how cool does that Eagle Creek wet look blue pull along look on the first page of the website…I did go looking…..!

I picked up the Eagle Creek Caldera International 2-Wheeler back in 2021 and had it sent to a relatives in Seattle who stored it for me for 18monthe (nice of them!) . I doubt it'll ever be available here without paying ridiculous shipping fees.

But yeah there's always stuff to look at, and realistically I probably have enough travel gear for several lifetimes. But everyone has a hobby of sorts,I guess for now, this is mine

Thanks! This looks a great possibility (if I can get one); ... Tarmac XE 2-Wheel International Carry On | Eagle Creek . Would have to look at it in person before buying though. Lacks expansion and a bit heavy ...

Same thing has happened with local Australian company Crumpler also, even reverting to a website similar to the style circa early 2000's.

It's completely intentional. Crumpler's website was like that in the early 2000s, back when flash animation was all the rage for websites. Crumpler always been about more than just bags so having an eccentric creative website was their thing. As they grew, they expanded, but always tried to maintain their inner Melbourne suburban vibe.

Until of course they became big enough to get venture capital involved. They grew the brand, even splintered off a European Crumpler, that remains today, and despite the name and branding, is not associated with Crumpler Australia at all. Then through Covid etc, the brand was almost shelved by the investors. But last year, one of the original co-founders has taken over control. Even to the point of saying they cannot support any previous customers because the records were never handed over. And part of this move back to their roots, was to return to their classic website.

It looks very different to modern websites, but it is quintessentially Crumpler!

I use the Mont Fuego from mont.com.au but as well as being out of production it doesn't meet some of your criteria. I see Mont also sells Osprey gear and this bag could be another one to compare to the Eagle Creek model... at least available in Aus. Seems to be about the same specs as the XE 2.

Wildearth has that Osprey model at the moment for $375.

WRT luggage forwarders I have found these to be mostly uneconomical now compared to pre-covid.

However, I've been shopping online for weeks ahead of my trip next week from UK and US sites that offer free delivery domestically and having delivered to friends i will be catching up with.

Eagle creek packing cells are hard to come by but still the best around by far.

Most stuff going to my friend in Indianapolis, which is last stop before heading home, stops me lugging stuff around and a delivery of Tim Tams helps sweeten the deal. But she has a massive house so a few parcels are not a problem to hold for a few weeks.

Checking out Istanbul, I'm pretty sure I'll get what I want cheaply, but if just the right one is here, that would be best.

It was sad to hear that Crumpler had folded - the first time. I was an early adopter/fan with the Crumpler Dry Red No 5 - Laptop Backpack, which I still have today, and we've seen and done a lot of places - for work purposes only.

Mine arrived today. Very happy with the carry on and the larger case which is just slightly larger than my current which is good. Beautifully packaged and design is excellent. Lots of features I'd not expected. Not sure about the backpack. It's quite different.

Just an update to this thread on the situation with MyUS. Through correspondence with their support, I've come to find out that up until last week, their UK facility was not their own but another party's, so they had limited control of what happened. For context, a shipment of items I ordered and sent to their UK facility, is being estimated to cost me USD$260 to send to Australia. Last week they have opened a new UK facility under their direct control, and for reference, the same parcel if sent from this new facility would only cost USD$90 to ship to Australia.

MyUS is now telling me that they cannot move my parcel from the old to new facility (As the old facility checks addresses and will not send to other freight forwarders), and my only options are now to return the items to the retailers, or abandon the package altogether.

So now I need to decide to fork out the $260 pricetag, and if so I will never use MyUS again. or see if I can find a friendly in the UK that I can ship my reasonably largish package too and store for upto 2yrs until I'm in a position to collect it again.

I’ve never seen a single EK staff member ever care about carry on across all classes. FWIW I’m a big Rimowa fan with the soft cover so I can put my toiletries in an easy to reach location though DXB doesn’t require you to remove toiletries so hang onto all amenity kits when transitting.
