Centurion 2011 Benefits

After the rubbish Oriental Express offer, Amex is finally doing something right for the year of 2011.

1 free night in Conrad or Waldorf Astoria (Selected Locations), no minimum stay.
The big question is - which property would you use the free night?! (I'm thinking of Maldive but I assume this property would be excluded!)

Ok now that is a great offer. Any more details?

You have to pay the difference if you want to stay at a higher level room...

From my experience, if you book a King room (lowest catagory), you will most likely to get a club floor anyway. Sometimes a suite too, depends on the property. (For Conrad & with HH Diamond)

There is also e-upgrade too if a higher catagory room is required.

The only "London" property as a part of the deal is the London Syon Park Hotel which is some 20km from the city (half way to Heathrow).

Hi Deisel,

I wasnt aware of the US airways Plat? I just rang them the other day to see if they could move MR to DM in any way and they said no affiliation and couldnt help?

I know this is sort of OT - but in your experience is e-upgrade worthwhile? Is it really only for say relaxation room/suite? Don't want to be paying for it if I am almost certain to get it anyway. So, if I request an e-upgrade to an exec room then I will have to pay for the upgrade while I am most likely to get that room anyway? What about if I select an eupgrade to the relaxation room - is it more likely that they will upgrade us to a suite?

Sorry to break that news to you. But if you look through my previous posts, it was meant to be a joke.

Just had a look at the AUS Centurion website today and found the CX Diamond membership listed as a benefit alongside the Qantas Club benefit, under the lounge finder section.

This leads me to believe the CX Diamond benefit may continue like the Qantas Club benefit. Ie, on-going but reviewed annually. Unlike the Shangri-la Jade benefit which was never advertised on the website and indeed was really just for one year.

Has anyone checked out the website lately? Any thoughts?

It was never listed up to about a month ago so I would say it is a good sign and hopefully ongoing and not need to requalify.

Just looked at the enrolment form and it still stays 1 year, and must applied before feb 2013. If it needs to be requalified, then it is really only going to be good for one year.

Ok regarding the CX Diamond status. I rang CX yesterday and they extended the membership by one month and said if i wish to extend it for another year they would set me a challenge. I asked about the Centurion extension and this didn't change the response. I rang my Travel executive at AMEX and they said it was a Cathay thing and that i should contact them. I told them i had and what response i got, and it appears i have now hit a brick wall.
If anyone thinks they have any other ideas, or had success please let me know.

As I said earlier, Centurion Travel's embarrassed silence and their referral of inquiries to CX makes me believe that this benefit will not be extended.
