- Most “by invitation” seem to be open to platinum and centurion? I.e. Fat Duck etc
There are seperate events for Centurion which can be alright at times. The Fat Duck was only for Centurion I believe and not open to Platinum Cards.
I would not say the insurances are the same. Centurion offers more than Platinum.

I think the major difference with insurance is that you are automatically covered, even if you don't charge a single cent of the trip to your amex card.
Also I don;t think the excess cover on car rentals is covered in Plat.
Sorry, wrong and wrong again. Platinum charge insurance has both those benefits.
From comments here, I believe the differences are mainly the amount of coverage (death etc), possibly the amount of the payment for travel delay, and possibly not requiring all expenses incurred for a travel delay to be charged to the card.
For the most part, the insurance levels are quite comparable - much closer than any of the other insurances Amex offer with cards.
Be careful on this one! I noted last year in my "updated" T&Cs on the Platinum Charge Card that you had to now spend a minimum of $100 of the "trip costs" in order to have the insurance... Which IMHO is coughpy  as the $900 really should cover that.
Are you sure about this? The last PDS i looked at stated that the insurance is valid as long as you hold a valid Platinum Charge Card (i.e not necessary to spend anything on the trip, you'll be covered regardless).
If what you said is right, then it significantly devalues the travel insurance.
You should call them because it appears every Cent member is getting a bottle.
