Changes to JQ On Departure Upgrade Prices

Can't say the FL was the worst place in the world for 11hrs - and I saw most of the cricket and had lunch and dinner .. (and polished off what must have been nearly a bottle of bollinger rose).

Understand that non-lounge pax got at least two $15 vouchers during the wait.
Flight wasn't that full - 140 total with 10 in *class and thankfully not too many parents with kids (for their sake given the wait)

There were three WPs in the lounge, one couple and me, and I guested FrankC after about 3hrs when he PM'd me.

Lack of switch to QF9 will form part of a lengthy complaint letter...
Qantas FL staff were trying to get us on QF9 but JQ airport manager wouldn't have a bar of it until JQ cancelled their flight. According to the staff went out with 12F,6J,1W,1Y spare.

All pax received a letter on board apologising, providing details to get a $100 voucher (no differentiation for *class :( and a promise for assistance at SIN to rebook flight.

At SIN utter shambles. No-one to meet the first pax at gate, he got there after a third of the plane had disembarked. No Jetsar reps at the transfer desk, contact number ringing out and departures check-in not opening until 4am. Only one staffer - no boarding passes, bunch of pax not knowing if luggage was being offloaded or not. Totally useless agents. Made everyone go through immigration and gather at Nightstop. Hotel apparently booked somewhere on Orchard Rd but no buses or vouchers. At about 3.30 finally managed to see the list and didn't appear to have been reacommodated (was on two separate PNRs). Went out into main airport and call JQ Melb on the Sin 800 6161 977 number. Got rebooked on the 8.35am. No point bothering with JQ hotel, I did walk over to T3 Airport Hotel but fully booked so just waited till 4.30am then did Rainforest then QF FL.

So almost no sleep - and missed one of my two days scuba diving in the Similans.

Can I say now a 5-hour delay and counting...

Now likely to take off 9hrs late for a 7.5hr flight.....

Waiting around for 11 hours? Sure the First Lounge is not the worst place to wait but you are still waiting.... and waiting.... and waiting for JQ to get their act together....

From memory you only had 3-4 days way.

Let's just say that JQ is highly unlikely to get any of my business this century....

Moa999, sorry to hear of your troubles with the new JQ MEL-SIN flights.

I fly JQ *class relatively regularly to Asia and while I think the product is good for the price I always hold my breath and cross my fingers that nothing goes wrong operationally as this is where JQ (and just about any other LCC I have experienced) really fall down and where QF starts to look really good. They just can't seem to get their act together to sort the issues out when things go pear shaped and it also seems to make absolutely no difference that you are booked in *class and/or a QF SG/WP.

I'm flying JQ *class MEL-SIN in June and like always will hold my breath and cross my fingers that it all goes ok.

I would prefer to fly QF/CX all the time and give JQ the big miss but their *class sales are such good value its hard to ignore them. I guess you have to be prepared to "get what you pay for" if things go wrong.

Cheers

Timmi

IF they reply I bet it says that JQ is a separate airline, hence couldn't possibly switch you to QF. Seems to be the double standard of QF, JQ is a separate airline when it goes bad; yet then when QF wants to stick you onto sub-standard jetstar flights suddenly QF does become related to JQ.

Good luck with the letter, I'm probably just too cynical....

To be fair to JQ though the QF flight was full in economy.

According to moa999 there were 10 people in *class so 8 of them would have got a premium seat on QF for their cheap *class purchase. Would it have been acceptable if the 10 *class passengers were offered an economy seat on the QF flight (somewhere down the back) and 10 people from QF economy op-uped to premium cabins?

By the same token if I was flying QF SIN-SYD in economy and the flight was delayed substantially I would not expect QF to give me a First Class seat on an SQ flight.

However, they do it is irrelevant. Starclass isn't always that cheap. It could be as expensive as a full economy QF seat. But you have suggested one way they could have moved people.

This sounds like the JQ is a completely separate airline argument. I would just ask why do I see 100s of JQ flight options when searching on QF and I don't see any SQ flights? Sure you're raised a valid question, but it is answered by the inconsistent way that QF relates themselves to JQ.

Apologies for veering completely OT medhead, but a search on QF for PER-KUL flights will return three options for the SIN-KUL leg: 3K, MH and SQ. Decisions, decisions! ;)

Fair enough. I'm happy to admit I have a narrow view of these things, having mainly searched something like ADL-SIN. Resulting in numerous options that invoke JQ via both SYD and MEL and limited all QF options. I wont bore you with details. But for having almost hourly ADL-SYD flights I found it strange to be only offered an afternoon flight that allowed about a 1.5 domestic to international transfer or an 8:40 am JQ flight to connected to my preferred QF5. Also looking for ADL-BNE us disheartening.

But my world view on this is "focussed"

Sorry if this is slightly OT - though it feels like a related post to me ;)

I'm trying to search for the link to that site that tells you how busy your flight is going to be (and therefore whether an ODU is possible)... the link that was referenced earlier doesn't work for me.

I can't even remember the terms used so can't do a general search of all the posts!

We're off to HNL in late Feb and we are both very keen for an ODU. We already have exit row booked (Mr Lan is 6'6) but we'd love to angle for *C...

I think you need to ask others to check for you now, here.

No you dont, you can do it yourself for free with the Expertflyer Trial membership for five days: Frequent Flyer Information Plans | Flight Services

Well yes, there’s free trials and monthly fees beyond that, but I notice some are loathe to join EF. I’ve never used it myself, though am waiting for my dad to ask about availability again and then I’ll spring the idea of joining the site together for combined use ;)

Its only $5 a month otherwise. seatcounter is another site but its frequently out of service, and has been offline for three months this time.

That’s what I used to use, and why I suggested asking in the thread instead, as the easiest option has gone.

.

If someone asks how they get the information they need then they should be given the correct information and it should not be assumed that they may be loath to join EF, they can then make their own choices as most regular flyers do! As you have never used Expertflyer you would not be aware that its against the sites T&Cs to redistribute the info on the site, so while the occasional help request might be overlooked, it is a business that derives its income from providing a service which its not getting if that "help" is overused!

Its offline, not gone, and has had similar offline periods in the past, someone viewing the thread in 6 months time might find it working so it should be mentioned as a possibility, albeit it a remote one at present.

Its easy with starclass - just attempt to book large amounts of starclass tickets on the flight with the jetstar.com website. you can work out how many seats are still free.

Hi Markis10

Thanks (again!) - does Expert Flyer work for JQr? I looked on their info page for new members and it doesn't list them as a carrier for upgrade availability?

I mostly fly QF, JQ, CX...

Expertflyer does show fare bucket but not seat maps for JQ, which is not too much of an issue as a dummy booking will bring up a seat map on the JQ site, it should be noted that seat maps are often poor indicators as they will only show those that purchased a seat and selected it, so a mix of seat map and fare bucket info will give you a better idea.

Apparently there is another website Flightstats that allows people to research flight availability for free and all that is required is an email address to sign up.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents, a few people were noting that they were being charged $500 for ODU OOL-NRT, but i travelled last August and scored one for $199. About another 8 people in *class. Points didn't claim automatically but a claim through missing points saw them post within 5 days. Was also entitled to 30kg baggage as well.

Am moving to Tokyo in April so hopefully can do this again as I will have lots of baggage this time ;)

After putting through a claim got the full points on my 9-hr delayed JQ7.
Didn't get a price on JQ8 on the way back - desk said *Class was full - were lots of people connecting from BA onto JQ to MEL and the plane was chockas in both classes.
