Changes to QF lounges in Singapore

This really cheeses me off. AJ is reported at the Emirates announcement stating that the Singapore F lounge would go ahead. Now a couple of weeks later - not so much. Red Roo started the thread and would appreciate explanation.

I don't trust what 'that man" says or what that Company does anymore.

Being based in SIN, it looks like my soon-to-be WP status is "enhanced" even before I've obtained it...

Only make a difference when travelling on a Jetstar flight departing from 3:30pm onwards, where now you are entitled to F lounge access, that will revert to J. Before 3pm no lounge is open anyway. And when travelling on OW, you'll still get into the new BA F lounge!

IMHO, there was little difference between the F and J lounge in SIN, apart from the occasional food tray brought out.

I think with the bulk of the QF EU traffic changing to going through Dubai in April next year, the SIN J lounge will most probably become a less crowded, more enjoyable lounge for the people using it.

So the old Business Lounge is currently the First Class Lounge and the old First Class Lounge is the Business Lounge.

I have been in SIN for ~4 hours this evening and I thought I would wander over to the Qantas lounges.

Spent ~3 1/2 minutes in First Class lounge and it was full and not a single desktop available. Food ordinary with some chicken wings and dim sims. Dress standards remarkably worse than Old First Class lounge.

Spent ~1 minute in Business Class lounge and it was full and not a single desktop available with 3/5 taken up by kids playing games and adults waiting to use them standing up behind desktops. Food ordinary. Dress standards seem much better than before as the Business class customers in shorts and thongs are now in First Class lounge.

Have return to Skyview lounge as it is much quieter. There were a few hot options available earlier which have now disappeared.

So it seems... From all angles.. Very... Underwhelming.. :(

I should also add that the Skyview Lounge now has another 2 hot food options + American fried rice but I am stuffed and will have a meal on board soon.

This was similar to my experience a couple weeks ago. Basically as reported and expected. Still good for a shower though. If they do give up on the F reno and just open one big decent J lounge it may not be such a bad thing.

Not too sure why you care what anyone else is wearing though - there is no dress standard requirements, and people like to travel in comfy clothes. Hardly QF's fault what people wear anyway...

Which is why on my last few trips through SIN I have used either Skyview Lounge or the SATS Lounge using my Diners Club card for entry. Much more civilised way to wait for a flight.

I believe there are dress standards aren't there? Don't the lounge rules require "smart casual" or some such. Not that they're enforced.

I think it's a reasonable criticism, or at least observation, to make if people are poorly dressed. Lounges are meant to be a comfortable and pleasant change from what's 'outside' in the general airport, a point of distinction. Surely that requires that people are dressed ssmartly, albeit casually. Thongs and shorts are not that.

skyview or the cactus garden are the safest bets for lounge access in SIN :)

Was in the temp F lounge in Sing yesterday and it was actually a big improvement in terms of space from the old one. Bit of a wait for a shower, but decent selection of hot food and plenty seats.

I have been saying for ages the Skyview lounge is a much better option and I do not believe I am far from the mark but it is one of the lounges where you either like it or hate it.

An update here on location at Skyview Lounge... the upstairs section has been extended. There are some more seats extending towards the back of the lounge, while there's also a new "quiet room". It's a slightly darken room with a few comfy seats, and I guess no phones or kids are allowed.

So, Skyview is improving, and QF first is closing... why does QF even bother about SIN?

I know I should not care but I like seeing people dress nicely in public especially while traveling.

By the way the dress standard I mentioned yesterday was t-shirt, shorts and thongs. Not really good enough.

And in the Silver Kris Lounge tonight and almost every single person dressed to standard. Not one in thongs. Some in jeans and t-shirt with shoes. Why is this lounge different? Better class of person?

Went through SkyView a month ago and was surprised that the food in the top enclosed room was different to the main apron room.

Not really good enough? I find that quite offensive to be honest. I, and I would say that most other people are the same prefer to be comfortable when travelling. If that means shorts/shirt/thongs, so be it. It's not hurting anyone. I often will do similar as it's more comfortable / easier to get shoes on / off (and not have to worry about any potential smell from socks == a bonus), and if having been in a warm climate (especially so if on holiday!!) why should you have to wear long trousers and a button up shirt? I'm sorry, but that's just the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

I also am extremely offended around the suggestion that class has anything to do with it. Different cultures, different ages etc. have different tastes and ways of conducting themselves. Just because you think your way is the best, it doesn't make anyone else of lower class as a result.

If it all means so much to you, fly private.

Why offensive? I made a comparison between similar lounges in SIN.

There is supposed to be a dress standard and when everyone, except for one, is dressed to standards they stick out quite noticeably.

By the way my dress standard is not my own dress standard. It has been around for a long long time and widely accepted around the world. But that is not what it is all about. Is it? It is all about doing what everyone feels like and stuff the others around them.

Update 2: midnight.
It was quite crowded just before the AF flight left. It then improved further when the KLM flight was called. At the same time, let's have a moment of silence for the poor souls on the AY flight - went tech and cancelled at the last minute - at least everyone's safe on the ground.

It's now nice and spacious, waiting for the CX 1:15am flight to HKG. Not sure if the lounge closes after that, but I can see that the quiet room has its lights switched off. If the lounge doesn't close, then it might be a realistic option for an overnight transit?
