Changes to QF lounges in Singapore

Wasn't too impressed with the temp F lounge in SIN when popping through (QF9) a couple of nights ago.

Jumped off the plane (was in Y), and headed straight to the lounge. No shower queue (AWESOME!) so had a quick shower. Came back out, and there were some free chairs but very few left. Sat down. No power points nearby so went to hunt for somewhere that had one free. Finally found a space on the IT table that had one - but was shoulder to shoulder with the bloke next to me.

Food was very average - samosas, dim sims (both cheap and nasty), a chicken dish and a few other items.

Lounge was very packed by the time I left ... no free space at all.

My sister, travelling in J SIN-BNE yesterday reported zero seats in the SIN Qantas lounge. I told her to go to the Skyview as she'd have access under oneworld rules (travelling in J). The Skyview staff told her "use the Qantas lounge". She pleaded that there were no seats in the Qantas lounge and was reluctantly let into the Skyview.

That's quite a common occurrence - I just state I prefer the "Skyview" and then I am admitted.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

Why offensive? I made a comparison between similar lounges in SIN.

There is supposed to be a dress standard and when everyone, except for one, is dressed to standards they stick out quite noticeably.

By the way my dress standard is not my own dress standard. It has been around for a long long time and widely accepted around the world. But that is not what it is all about. Is it? It is all about doing what everyone feels like and stuff the others around them.

I've told you before but I'll tell you again, time to move airlines. It seems SQ lounges are more your cup of tea, as people dress nicely (apparently).

I'll add Qantas customers dress standards to your list of gripes re: Qantas.

Also your dress standard is completely your own dress standard, as we all dress in our own ways.

I believe there are dress standards aren't there? Don't the lounge rules require "smart casual" or some such. Not that they're enforced.

I couldn't actually find any dress standard mentioned in either the lounge of QFF T&Cs that are online, but I am not the best at searching those, so someone else may find something.

The SQ lounge in SIN is a homeport for most SQ flyers, quite a few who are probably also doing regional/short flights, where it's easier to maintain higher dress standard, or are going straight to work/home. The QF lounge mostly has people doing longhaul and are partway through a long journey, or on holidays, so wearing comfortable clothes is going to be more common.

Back on topic though I definitely agree the QF lounge situation there is not great at all right now.

10.7 Smart, casual dress standards apply at all times. Individual lounge managers will have discretion to administer these standards as they reasonably deem appropriate in the circumstances.

I've flown in a tux, suit, smart casual, shorts shirt & thongs.....every time I've been well behaved, looked ok & never been refused access to a lounge.

Never understood why people get upset about how other people look!

Better not visit when I'm there then. Whilst I don't wear thongs in the sq lounge (nor can ever recall seeing anyone in an sq lounge wearing thongs) I certainly have no issues with shorts. On long haul I often wear some neat shorts, casual shoes and maybe even a t-shirt (but usually wear a long sleeved shirt - so I can put my passport/bp/etc in a shirt pocket - and change to t shirt on plane).

On long flights I prefer shorts as you never know if it's going to be hot or cold in the plane. Shorts are good when hot and good- by adding blanket - when cold.

Biggest lesson in life.
Never, ever, ever judge a book by it's cover.....

Nothing wrong with that dress standard.

I looked a while back but couldn't find definitive guidelines for access to the Skyview lounge.

I am SG with QF currently, as well as QP. The partner will be PS and on the next trip we will be flying Y. Can we get into the Skyview lounge or do I need to be WP or flying J?

Thanks. From that page does it actually tell you what 'level' the lounge is? I had a look but still couldn't figure out if I have access as Sapphire as it is a business lounge, or if they call it a first class lounge?

I think I would get access for myself +1.

I do not believe it is a First Class Lounge as there is no segregation.

I think you should have access as a Oneworld Sapphire incluidng guest.

By the way I did see a sign the other day welcoming Air Asia passengers so perhaps they use this lounge as a contract lounge.

Yes you would. It's a combined CX lounge.
Emerald and Sapphire members may invite one guest to join them in the lounge.

Air Asia has an option to buy lounge access. They tell you which lounge it is. But it's certainly not ALL Air Asia passengers.

Yes I know it is not all Air Asia passengers. ;)

If it was I would be flying Air Asia all the time. :p

Same as NRT - you get a F class invite however, I'll be buggered if I can find a Flounge separate from the general lounge.

Never not been able to access the Skyview lounge flying either as a SG or a WP.

I have been advised to go to the Qantas lounges on almost all occasions when not travelling CX but I have simply stated I prefer the Skyview lounge.
