Chasing the Qantas 787

It is still unknown about domestic routes with the dreamliner. Is it possible that we will not find this out? And by this I mean Qantas won't publish anything, and on some routes the dreamliner will be put on last minute, or a decision will be made the day prior etc.

It just doesn't seem like this information is going to be available and I assume familiarization flights will begin in the next few days.......

Flights are not about to "begin in the next few days", there's a schedule in place for the 789's domestic runs and that information is still likely to be shared this week.

As someone who's around the same size as the 18yo in the PE seat pic provided by pjm99au, I'll certainly be avoiding it for any long haul trips. Such a shame that QF didn't think this one through properly. If it's as comfortable as is suggested in the recline position it really is a lost opportunity by QF. A mere total of 6 inches across the 3 non-bulkhead rows could have changed the whole outlook/review of these PE seats. Thanks pjm99au for your review pics.

I'm not sure if this was a typo: "being in the next few days" ?

As someone who likes to stretch his rather short legs out, I'm still not sure about this cradle position, the seat lifting so far at the front means you really only have the one position to sit in. Even ANZs Y seats did that 15 years ago and it was really uncomfy even trans Tasman.

The cradle footrest seems to require the pitch to not be too large but this remains very dubious to me. However the on seat leg rests are uniformly hopeless on all PE seats I've been in - built for someone 5'2" and otherwise very unsupportive.

It'll be interesting to see the first long haul reviews.

I'm really curious to see how the QF Y+ seat compares with the BA WTP seat.

I'm travelling KUL-LHR in three weeks (B787 WTP) so I'm keen to know. I've heard the BA seat is pretty good, considering the price, and also the route is much shorter than PER-LHR.

It's going to be very interesting just to see posts from people here and on Facebook groups, social media etc as they do premium economy on the 787's transcon legs. We're booked on the MEL-LAX inaugural in business class but I plan to do one leg to premium economy to get the full 12+ hour experience (I slept in premium economy on the HNL-SYD leg of the QF7879 delivery flight but that was only a few hours of dozing, nothing like the full long haul).

Soooo glad the divider in Business is adjustable. Reckon they must have had many complaints from those flying in pairs

Yup a MEL-SYD existing booking I had was just subbed......

The seat map is wide open as well in J. I was able to secure 1A as a PS

Stupidly didn't research before booking a quick trip to Perth a little while back (even though it was unconfirmed, the schedule would've matched up for me).

Oh well, guess I'll make do with the VA 737

On a whim with another FF friend am doing the 460/497 turn for a lazy fun (hopefully) evening of trying the 787 in J and PE on the late return. While the QF product and 789 are hardly new to me it will be a fun little fling (and I had a voucher expiring to use anyway so... worked out perfectly)

now hopefully no late swaps which is always the big risk with these sorts of things. Either way I'll survive :D

In a few threads the QF Dreamliner has been referred to as a 787-9xx. I expect it would be safe to say 787-938 if you wanted to avoid the "xx"

Boeing actually dropped customer codes earlier this year. The 787 program never issued customer codes.
