  1. Fly to SYD (most people seem to be flying in early that morning, but you can do so the night before)
  2. Take the train to CBR (it's a private carriage so it's organised through AFF)
  3. Fly home (probably the next day as we'll arrive in CBR quite late)

What is the train cost & what time does it depart SYD?

I think the majority of us are staying at the crowne plaza or Novotel, we could have something close by to one of these?

Aren't we meeting a local there? Maybe they can choose an appropriate spot?

Here's some information:
The plan this early is a bit fluid. Originally I thought we'd run around the Bankstown line and onto the East Hills line allowing direct connections with airport line trains. (To avoid Central) But the Bankstown line is shut that Saturday for trackwork.

the plan as it currently stands is.
Depart Central 10.20am
Pick Up at Wolli Creek on the airport line.
Run via the coast line to Moss Vale then back onto the main south to Goulburn.
This route might change but the departure time should remain unchanged.

Because of potential fire bans and cost, we won't be running steam, it will be diesel hauled.

As to costs, I'll ask for donations that I can pass on to a needy group for disadvantaged families coming up to Christmas.

I'll post updates to the times as they come to hand.

Matt

Do you mean City Hill? Cause I don't think there's an Accor property near Capital Hill.

Novotel in the city? Mercure in Ainslie (old Olim's Hotel)?

The carriage is actually owned by Matt. He kindly offered us the same deal a few years back on a trip to Thirlmere.

I'm sure the collective generosity of us here will ensure a substantial donation to a worthy cause too!

Just wondering if there is a 2a, which would include a dinner venue in CBR as I need to be in CBR the day of the train ride but may be able to make a dinner?

Join the train/ pub in Queanbeyan perhaps for the last leg?

There will be people who kick on and those who pass out. I'll probably be the latter depending on the heat (no a/c on the train). But still, i'll just go with the flow:)

Good idea, I'll mull that over as my car would be at QBN and I'd like to get back to pick it up without taking a cab...

Well route 830 leaves Kingston at 7.08 Sat night back to QBN where you could get your car and then drive back to the fun.

Route 830

Thanks Hvr,

Can we clarify the date as 14 Dec is a Friday? And, the ETD at Kingston railway is around 2000? Cheers

14th is a Saturday, and so far it does look like the ETA at Kingston is 2000.

WOW, my Taronga Zoo calender (free in the SMH) has it as a Friday. Better throw that out now. And, it has November wrong too.

It is 2013 as I quintuple checked.

BAM1748 - How are we going with numbers ? I was thinking of bringing along +2 , my Dad & brother , as they have & currently work on the railways & I think would really enjoy a trip like this . If numbers have reached capacity then i will hold of on any extended invite.

I'm impressed by the interest, I need to go back and run through the thread again to see where the numbers are at.

I'm on Jury Duty at the moment making regular updates difficult.

I can't see any real issues with numbers provided the people coming don't mind extra. Will add BAM1741 for overflow, actually it's a far more upmarket car than 1748 and suitable for first and business, 1748 will be Y.

I hope your jury duty ends soon Matt!

Which car is heading out for us on the 14th?

My +1 is y yet confirmed but flying aerial survey work for a living has a keen interest in aviation and such, I'll ask him shortly as long as everyone is ok with the numbers :)
