Close to booking, looks like it'll be VA500 down to SYD arriving about 0830 and going back CBR - MEL - OOL with VA as well, just not sure which one!

Anyone else doing VA?
Ill prob be on that - either all the way to OOL or just to MEL as have not decided if im going home or going home home that early.

Mrs Major and I are very interested. Put us down as almost certain...will now look at flights and accomm.

Many years ago we were guests of TNT on special Christmas train trips which would leave from Regent Street railway station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

They would attach the bar and dining cars from the Indian Pacific and other select carriages for the day. They were great trips

I just thought about it and the last thing I want to be doing is carrying around 100kg of luggage for my xmas & new years trip, so ill prob jump off in MEL.

Ok - Flights Booked
Depart/Return to MEL
Saturday 14 December - VA819 Arrivr SYD 09:25
Sunday 15 December - VA272 Depart CBR 14:05
(Both E-Jets... I love canberra!)
Have also booked the Novotel in Civic - Standard nothing special room at $153- pr night fully flexi unto 24 hours before (online non-flex is $150). I believe I can book a second room at my contracted rate if anyone else was going to stay out there but wants to book flexi (just in case hotel specials come up between now and then).

Trying to get myself organised...

Will the CBR component be in Civic or somewhere else? As always looking at the Hyatt...

I can't believe there are no Hilton properties in CBR

I believe it is on the other side, between capital hill & the airport. i just booked civic as I intend on keeping the party going! Canberra has one of my favorite nightclubs.

I've booked flights for me +1. Arriving in SYD Friday night. Are we better to stay near Central, the airport, or somewhere along another line?
Leaving CBR Sunday morning 09:15.

The Hyatt is possibly better located for us senior citizens.

I am too old for nightclubs, they probably wouldn't let me in :o

Leaving CBR Sunday morning 09:15.

There's more hotels in & around Central.

I can remember my first time there, only a few weeks ago, the nightclub scene was unlike anything i've ever experienced in Aus or Europe. The town is lawless - they love fun in Canberra.

Thanks erkpod. It's more a question of where we'll pick up the train on Saturday. I don't want to get the airport train into town on Friday night only to find out we need to be at the airport the next morning.

re: Christmas Drinks & Train Crawl Sydney to Canberra [Sat. 14 December]

Have booked VA647 (depart 13.05) back to SYD...my "Virgin" flight on an ATR. I may pull out the "fly ahead" card on the 10.05 if needed.... but its a Sunday morning and I may be nursing a sore head after the activities of the previous day.
So I guess that makes me Platinum for the event.

I love the lounge in CBR, i intend on spending as much time in there as possible, while watching the RAAF jets fly the PM in and out.

Yeah the CBR lounge is great . You can just kick back in the sun & watch the goings on across the airport .

Trust me, the train will be leaving from Central.

The travel time from Domestic station to Central station is only 10 minutes.

Trust me, the train will be leaving from Central.

I wouldn't be jumping to that conclusion.

Given this is essentially a private service, it will be up to BAM1748 to advise us when and where the train will be departing.
