The Citibank Platinum Card | Citibank Australia

50,000 bonus points after $1000 spend within 3 months.
$299 annual fee ($250 card fee + $49 rewards program)

1 FF point per $1 spend

also 2.9% on balance transfers for 6 mths

Annual fee seems a bit steep for 1 FF per dollar, but the 50k bonus probably makes it worthwhile (for the first year at least ;)).

Would be interested to hear other people's views.

i rather not pay the annual fee. if you are a citigold private client you can get it waived but i dont think you will get the 50k points too as its a different offer. ref 50,000 bonus points after $1000 spend within 3 months, i wonder if this is only if you opt in to agree to pay $49 for the QFF rewards program. what if you only want the normal citirewards program will you still get 50,000 bonus points after $1000 spend within 3 months? only if citibank would be willing to upgrade there gold card clients with no annaul fee cards for life to this platinum card and retain the o annaul fee cards for life status and the 50k points is an added bonus but i dont think they will budge. btw its only 40k points via there homepage.

I don't mind this one.

At $299 for 50,000 points it works out as $0.0059 per point.

Compare this to the Woolies card that we liked for $89 a year with 16,000 points worked out at $0.0056 a point.

And the ANZ card with 20,000 points for $95 works out at $0.0047 per point.

What makes this one attractive is that it is a large amount. I need a one way J award from BKK to DEL on CX and this gets me there with change for $299. If you build in the extra 1000 points from the spend then things are a little better at $0.0058 per point.

I would suggest that these promos really need to be about half a cent or less per point for them to be attractive.

With this, the Woolies card and ANZ you could be up for 86,000 QF points for $483. Much better than $990 for 75,000 with AMEX.

I guess that depends on how one burns points.

I assume also that should be $900 for Amex.

With Amex you also get a free flight. ie Melbourne to Cairns or say Auckland, and proper free travel insurance amongst other benefits including that any free Supp Card holders are covered for seperate travels. I am not sure if the Citi insurance is as generous?

However if one is not limited to QFF, the 75 K will get me a one way J trip to Europe on *A, or even just 67.5K on SQ...plus the free flight.

86K at QFF will not get me one way to Europe in J.

One can grab all the points though ;)

Worse case scenario, take the 50k points, cash it in for 3x$100 Woolies vouchers for 43,500 points. On that it is above breakeven.

There are other vouchers for slightly cheaper, but I find the worse case scenario the Woolworths ones as I generally need groceries.

@ lovetravellingoz you have an excellent point re J awards with *A but getting the Amex plat card is hard. You need to have income over $100k and that isn't easy. I, for one, fail that test (admitedly not by much ;)).

The return flight also sweetens the value.

Still this seems ok value.

Yes agreed, and in particular if it takes one up to the balance needed fora trip/

I will probably grab the ANZ by 2, but pass on the Citibank simply as I am unlikely to redeem my QFF points for some years as I will have by June about 2 million points to try and whittle through at SQ. Even with my family of 5....this will take some years as I am still topping up the pot and it is difficult to have more than 2 long-haul international holiday trips each year. Leave...and one unfortunately has to still pay for the land-content!!!

Still I keep adding to the QFF balance, but only where points are cheap....or "free".

Does anyone have a view on how good the international travel insurance is with Citibank?

There seems to be two different offers:

50,000 points:
The Citibank Platinum Card | Citibank Australia
(with $1000 minimum spend)

40,000 points:
Citi Platinum Credit Card | Citibank Australia
(with no minimum spend)

If you look at it via the QANTAS FF special offers, it is 50,000 with $1000 min spend and yes you have to join the QANTAS rewards part of their rewards program.

I am seriously considering this too.. afterall, everyone thought it was a great idea to pay $89 for 16,000 points for the woolies card (including me!) - this one is very similar in points/$ ratio..

I probably would apply for this, but I already have Citi Visa (ffl) and M/C.

One important difference with the Woolies card is that Citi impose a 120K cap per year,
but for a 50k points top-up it's good.

Can someone point me to the T&C for the overseas travel insurance on this card as its not leaping out at me fromt heir website...

Be cautious of the 40K offer, I do not believe it gives you QFF points but 'citi' points - so is a bit different in that respect to the 50K offer.

OK so I decided to jump on this offer, I get to page 3 of the online application and under Rewards Enrollment there is only one option ("Citi Rewards") in the drop down, is there any reason why I don't have the option for Citi Qantas Rewards?

Hi,

Having used the Citibank free international travel insurance I can tell you that the T&C's are NOT available on their website. You need to call Citibank on 132484 (I think?) and they will email you the T&C's.

I went searching on their website and it seems that you need to apply for the Citi Qantas Awards when you activate the card.

It's a bit of a moot point for me right now, as I clicked on the submit button, the window disappeared and that was it. No confirmation, no email, so I'm assuming the application didn't get submitted.
