Citibank Platinum VISA - 50,000 Bonus Points (expiry: 31 March 2011)

I received a slightly different offer in the post today. (Interestingly addressed to "The Householder")

"How would you spend 60,000 Citibank Rewards Points?"

"If you apply and are approved for your Citi Platinum Credit Card before 31 March 2011, you'll receive 60,000 bonus Citibank Rewards points when you make your first purchase on your Citi Platinum Credit Card."

No mention anywhere of the Citibank Qantas rewards program though.

I just received the same offer. If I am right that equates to 30k KrisFlyer points which is good.

I wonder if this offer is timed to coincide with the Westpac KrisFlyer card Visa devaluation coming up in a couple of weeks. I sense Citibank may be looking to lure the dissatisfied Westpac customers, such as me!

I just rang up and checked the transfer rate to KrisFlyer and they told me its 1:1. I thought it was 1:0.5 KrisFlyer Points for this card. Also with an annual fee of $250 plus an extra $90 for a supp card, I dont see this card as being good enough value at all, even with the bonus points!

40...........which is better;)

This is based on a transfer rate of 3/2

I note you say 1/1...which unless it has changed is incorrect.

Ok. Well still not too bad. The call centre tried to tell me it was 1:1 but from what I have read on this forum regarding their call centre, they cant exactly be trusted to know their product.

Would you see an annual fee of $250 and the 40k bonus points as good value for this card? I really need a replacement visa for my KF Platinum and was hoping this might be it.

bonus rewards points this web link seems to be a better offer of 60k points and it expires on may 31 and you only need to make a purchase of any amount to get the bonus points. To be eligible for the 60,000 bonus Citibank reward points you need to apply for the Citibank Platinum Credit Card before 31 May 2011 and make a retail purchase with your card prior to 31 October 2011. This promotion excludes ATM cash advances, balance transfers and special promotions. The bonus points will be awarded on the next statement cycle, following your first retail purchase.

should a new thread be started for this? Are you allowed to retain a gold citibank visa credit card with no annual fee for life if you apply for this platinum visa card or will they simply convert it over and charge you $250 without you requesting it? It will be good if you can hold onto both a gold and platinum card? then just cash in the 60k points and then try to convert the new platinum over to a citigold platinum no annual fee card or ask for a refund and close the account, but im not sure if you can do this? perhaps you are only allowed to apply for the citigold platinum no annual fee card directly using the special citigold paper application forms and not allowed to already hold a citibank platinum card?

Yes, in my view. Its a different offer.

Whats the initial cost of this card? 250$? The fine print seems to indicate so + 49$ for the QFF program. $299 for 60K, better than 299$ for 50K which is this threads original deal.

If I pay $49 to opt in to QFF, I wonder if I will get 60,000 bonus QFF points instead? Or does the bonus apply only if you stay on the Citibank rewards program?

I believe you do yes. But you have to join the QFF program whilst you are on the phone activating your card for the first time. I think this is written somewhere in the T&C's

Seems to be a better deal than the 75,000 bonus MR points available on the $900 Amex Plat Charge Card. Only difference is MR allows you to transfer to other airline FF programs and the substantial price difference between annual fees of these two cards. I wonder if the bonus offer applies to CitiGold customers too (who are entitled to annual fee waiver). If yes, it sounds like a gold deal.

You can transfers these bonus CR points to other FF programs also, such as KrisFlyer. You just dont get the 1:1 ratio though. 60k points equates to 40k KF points I believe.

According to the terms and conditions of the new offer... "To be eligible for the 60,000 bonus Citibank reward points you need to apply for the Citibank Platinum Credit Card before 31 May 2011 and make a retail purchase with your card prior to 31 October 2011."

I saw the 50k points offer and subsequently applied and was approved for the Citibank Platinum Visa. Now that this offer is available, is there any reason why I should not be entitled to the 60k points instead? (I meet the criteria above)

There is no mention of having to apply after a certain date. I applied relatively recently. They may be able to say that the offer wasn't available when I first applied but given that I applied about 1-2 weeks ago, I suspect that it was on offer (although it will be hard for me to prove this).

This is Citibank that we are dealing with, so who knows. However, it is likely that the link you used to apply will be coded with a particular promotion code, so I would expect that you will be bound to that promotion. There is also a question of whether you can convert the 60,000 bonus CR points to QFF.

Friend of mine called the call centre. They said it's either 60,000 Citibank points or 50,000 QFF points. Can't see any mention of that in the terms and conditions.

That's because these are two separate offers. The link at Citi website offers 60k Citi reward points, whereas the link at the Qantas FF special offer website has 50k bonus QFF points. The offer that will apply depends on the link that you used when applying for the card. That is my understanding.

That's not what I understand the T&C's at bonus rewards points to read - it clearly states:
5. There are two reward programs available. Unless you enrol in the Citibank Qantas Rewards program, you will automatically be enrolled in the Citibank Rewards program.
so you can have the points deposited in either program. Past experience with Citibank wards me off any promotion they have because it's such an unpleasant chore extracting their offers out of them.

The way I read it is as follows:

Point 1 outlines the terms for the bonus 60k points. It clearly states Citibank reward points.

Point 5 outlines the terms (or part thereof) in connection with points earned on each dollar spent on the card.

We just need to get clarity from Citibank.

Had the points for my first month post overnight ... along with a separate transaction for the 50,000 bonus points. Paint me very surprised :)

I just seen the TV AD for the 60k point offer, on the bottom of the screen it said something like: "not available to existing citibank card members". I wonder what it means by this as i couldn't find it in the terms. i hope it means that the points aren't available if you are an existing Citibank visa platinum card holder not to all card members including gold visa cards if they decide to upgrade or do a new application. does anyone know? if any pre-existing citibank card members have applied for this offer can you confirm if you got the bonus 60k points? btw i called up last week they said that they could take the application over the phone and make a note on the application if you are a Citigold client and perhaps get the annual fee waived and get the 60k but theres no guarantee. can any Citigold members who applied for this offer confirm if their card annual was waived and they got the 60k bonus too?
