Coffee Machines

Which ever way you go remember that 'Life is too short to put up with bad coffee' :!:
Totally agree. Sitting at Lake Como, drinking my 4th Espresso of the day. Not looking forward to Nespresso or any others when I get home.

I agree. Eveything was a hassle. Thats why I shop at DJ's or smaller shops.

coffee Machine, I went with an Netspresso, spent about $900 and it works really well and I enjoy the coffee. No mess and fast.

one of the best investments I have made.

That's funny, I assume DJ's is David Jones and if so, you do know how much mark up they put on their products compared to other stores ??

*bump* Where was this machine? Looks great.:D

Its two machines, a dispenser for the pods then the coffee machine that you out the pods in, IC Sanctuary Cove have them in the club (no dispenser), Brisbane Sofitel and Cairns Sebel (now pullman?) also.

Thanks for the update.. Must try it..
I like the store in Queen St BNE for the varieties.

Stovetop moka pot for many years - good coffee, but always some grounds in the cup.

Then Aeropress. Love it. I'll keep it for travelling and when I'm up early morning and don't want to make any noise. I can also grind my own beans and have fresh coffee.

But after a stay at the Sydney Sofitel, I'm sold on the Nespresso. Bought the U a couple of weeks ago, it began leaking on the fourth pod and was replaced with no fuss the next day. I've tried the genuine pods, two compatibles and a lot of reloads.

The compatible pods are okay, but the lower price also comes with lower quality. IMHO.

Reloading Nespresso pods, as per Youtube, is feasible but erratic. You need to load them up precisely, sometimes the foil doesn't rupture cleanly, you might get a weak shot. Sometimes the pods deform. Not worth it.

I'll stick with the genuine pods - they produce a good coffee, nice bit of crema. A good range of strengths and flavours, nicely colour-coded. Follow the instructions, keep all clean - especially the milk frother - and life is sweet.

Only trouble is that my coffee intake has risen and I'm even less tolerant of bad coffee in a cafe at $4 a shot.

The online solutions look attractive, but I was glad of the immediate replacement of the defective machine under warranty at the local shop.

Saw an ad in the Sunday paper for these for $5 per 10 box at Woolies:

Piazza d’Oro’s Nespresso compatible L

Since I had a 250 QFF points for $20 coffee purchase offer last week, I decided to grab a couple.

Verdict - they smell nice while brewing but the coffee is lacking in strength - there seems to be less coffee in the cartridges that I get with Nespresso. I have leaned to only use [SUP]2[/SUP]/[SUB]3[/SUB] as much water. It's OK, but I won't be revisiting.
Well, after a year or so, I use these more than the Nespresso capsules - mainly due to convenience. (Still buy the Nespresso, but I consume the L'OR in a ratio of 4:1)

I have whittled the 'flavours' down to just two that work for me.

Keep an eye out on Woolworths online, they can be regularly had for under $5 a box. Currently $4.99 & earlier this year there was a 4 for $17 deal. (Free delivery 'till this Sunday 8th 'ADVENTDAY6')

(Make sure you clear the substitute 'similar' check-box - they are not the same)

I agree - I've just moved off the Nespresso pods to the cheaper Woolies pods and aside from price they just taste better.

Does anyone own a Map coffee machine? Just noticed that they are really cheap at Hardly Normal and wondered if they are any good.
I'm no coffee expert but will drink pretty much anything ( even GJ's on a good day ;) )

We've got a map machine and I was initially very sceptical at first but not any more. I was prepared to pay upwards of $1000 for a machine but SWMBO won that round. We picked up this combo deal for $149

Don't waste your money on the black/weak pods and stick with the green/strong and red/medium strength pods.

As with all pod machines you never know when the beans were processed in to pods and shipped to retail outlets. All of which determines if you're getting a good coffee.

The other week we did a side by side comparison of a pod machine with a coffee machine that grinds the coffee beans. We made both machines available as part of a seminar break out area to look at what would happen. Interestingly, while people were initially familiar with both machine as they had seen them both in different settings. People generally took the change to try a coffee fro each machine. After the first breakout session, people only then used the automatic machine.

It seemed that were there was no alternative, people would settle for a pod coffee. Where their was a choice of pod or fresh beans, people always took the fresh beans. The pods are costing us 62c each coffee, the fresh bean coffee 21 cents each.

It was interesting observation.

I'm looking to buy a "Pod Machine" over the automatic "All-in-One" simply because in the past, I've found these to provide burned or tasteless results.

My sister purchased one for her husband's office and no matter how hard I've tried to tweak it, every time I get one when I visit, it's burned to a crisp. Same goes for those machines that are fitted in various offices of clients - burned or so weak, I might as well not even bother.

If someone can suggest a reliable Auto machine, I'd be happy to try it out - the pod systems I've been exposed to, have provided a better outcome. Whilst not 100% every time, certainly much better than Auto Machines.

We have one of those super cheap Nescafe gusto machines. Love it!

At home, not being a picky coffee drinker (mostly all good except instant), I have a woolworths coffee machine which takes Cafitaly pods, again Woolies own brand. They last about a year and the pods are cheap. Machine was about $60.
At the gym (Grand Hyatt Melbourne) they have:

And it is utterly brilliant. Tastes like heaven after a work out. Never burnt, always nice frothy milk.

Good to see this thread open again - have never had a 'pod' machine but intend on purchasing one. About 12yrs ago we paid something like $600 for a coffee machine - 5 mins to make a coffee - 1hr to clean the focker - used once and delivered to op shop.

So kids - ok if I ask a series of dumb questions? Yes Tommy - yes penegal - I know - I know - I have no choice right?

Its the cleaning that made me go to the pods. I'd rather go without.
