Stovetop moka pot for many years - good coffee, but always some grounds in the cup.
Then Aeropress. Love it. I'll keep it for travelling and when I'm up early morning and don't want to make any noise. I can also grind my own beans and have fresh coffee.
But after a stay at the Sydney Sofitel, I'm sold on the Nespresso. Bought the U a couple of weeks ago, it began leaking on the fourth pod and was replaced with no fuss the next day. I've tried the genuine pods, two compatibles and a lot of reloads.
The compatible pods are okay, but the lower price also comes with lower quality. IMHO.
Reloading Nespresso pods, as per Youtube, is feasible but erratic. You need to load them up precisely, sometimes the foil doesn't rupture cleanly, you might get a weak shot. Sometimes the pods deform. Not worth it.
I'll stick with the genuine pods - they produce a good coffee, nice bit of crema. A good range of strengths and flavours, nicely colour-coded. Follow the instructions, keep all clean - especially the milk frother - and life is sweet.
Only trouble is that my coffee intake has risen and I'm even less tolerant of bad coffee in a cafe at $4 a shot.
The online solutions look attractive, but I was glad of the immediate replacement of the defective machine under warranty at the local shop.
