Comm Bank to issue AMEX... changes to QF/Velocity point earning

The letter stated that promotion period as 2 months (Nov + Dec) Jan is intentionally left out because of the due date requirement.

Points are effectively calculated and transferred after the statement date and thus the new transfer rate applies after Feb.

-Notes CBA Award Cluase 27 page 8 - states that points are updated monthly
- CBA Award Clause 5 page 19 - states that QFF points are transferred at the end of statement period

The promotion period (two months) was for the extra 1 points per $1 spent.

"Currently and until 1 February 2010 Platinum Awards customers require 1 Awards point to earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point or Velocity Point"

Looking at the graph $1 = 3 Qantas Frequent Flyer points until the 1st of February.

That says it all I think.

That being said I will put through most of my spend in the next few weeks :(

Will also ring CBA and ask for clarification as well

yeah and thats were the more I think about it the more I think CBA have worded it carefully,

all they have to say is that any purchase that is made on say 7th of Jan, and if your statement date is 6th Jan, they can simply say ,that there is no transfer of Award points until the statement date of 6th of Feb, and hence the points aren't actually tranasacted on until the 6th of feb hence at half ratio.

From FAQ.

Personal - Credit cards - Expect more - Help centre - Points-capping - Commonwealth Bank Group

Platinum Awards Members that have opted-in to Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct#
Before 1 January 2010 you can earn a maximum of 150,000 Awards points per year (equal to 150,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points).
From 1 January 2010, there will be a change to the number of Awards points that you can earn and from 1 February 2010 changes to the conversion rate of Awards points into Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Here’s how points capping will work with both cards from 1 February 2010:

Total points cap = 200,000 Awards points per year
First 120,000 Awards points earned
(equal to 60,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points)

Earn 3 Awards points per $1 spent using your American Express Card
Earn 1 Awards point per $1 spent using your MasterCard card or Visa Card

Additional 80,000 Awards points earned
(equal to 40,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points)
Earn 1 Awards point per $1 spent using your American Express Card only.

If you do not take the new Platinum Awards American Express Card, from 1 February 2010 you will be able to earn 1 point per dollar spent on your MasterCard or Visa up to 120,000 Awards points (equal to 60,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points).

thanks max,

I think we are trying to work out statement dates and how they have worded the conversion ratio and whether purchases made after your statement date in Jan are actually going to be counted at the higher ratio!

Hi, I have managed to change my statement date by CBA.
All you need to tell them is your paid day is xx_X and therefore the due date should be xx_XX.

They sent me a new set of cards and ask me to activate on the desire due date. (In my case, Dec 27 2009). So SOPOOR, what they told you were cough! Try again!

lovestotravel: don't think your complain will work. Because the following:

HA!

you were right, I just managed to change it,
I thought that my cards would become inactive straight away but apparently, only when I activate the new ones, great!

I was a bit confused, I asked for a statement date of the 28th, but they asked me it changes everymonth and I needed to choose apporximately, the 20th so that the statement date is going to be 27-31st of each month!

I asked about 3 times, but I don;t think she got what I was saying, so does that mean that I have until the 19th to shop or until later eg 27th-30th....?

Edit: actually im a bit confused, so were you told to activate the card on the date you wnated your statement?? ive been designated the 20th , so am I supposed to wait until the 20th or what??? sooo frustrating getting 2 bits of differnet info!

Just activate your new card on 25 dec, it should be fine

ok, new cards have arrived, :)

apparently, my bill/cut off date is on the 20th so that the statement date falls between 27th-30th Jan..

Diesellife suggested that I need to activate the card on the date that you want the staement date to fall, but I thought my statement date is already set by the banks computers so it doesn't matter when I activate them,

also I guess that the second I activate the new ones, the old cards become no good....so the additional card holders need to be aware that their cards will effectively become useless!

Your new card has a new number (This is a completely new account), so the statement date has not been set yet. The new statement date will be the date you activate it.

There are cooling off period. Once you activate your new cards, the old account does not close immediately. It takes 3-5working days to transfer your existing account balance to your new account.

OMFG....I am getting so pissed with this bank!!

I just went into a branch and used their phone to call the customer service,

the credit card specialist now claims that its not possible to change statement date without stopping the cards and getting new ones issued which means that I will be out of a card for a few weeks over christmas...

I specifically said that the last time we spoke, we spent 30 mins discussing the statement date issue and when I should activate the card, for me to get the new statement date,

and then proceeeded to tell me that although I got new cards that the statement date will remain the absolute same.

i told him that I am sick of being told conflicitng infromation every time and that I didn't want to have new cards issued every single time because CBA has no idea wtf is going and all I want to do is change my statement date

now he claimed that even though I had received my new cards, the statement date will not change at all.

so the person who processed it last time is going to call me back...yeah fat chance, ill bet she'll deny absolutely everything and tell me some BS

I am still going off the previous links I have given which state that points earn until the 1st of Feb is at the 3:1 rate for Amex and allows transfer to QFF.

correct however, basically your statement date in JANUARY, anything purchased AFTER the statement date until Jan 31st will NOT count at the 3:1 Awards = 3 QFF, it will be 3:1 Awards = 1.5 QFFpoints

so in essence, before your statement date in Jan, will be 3 QFF points for every dollar, and after the statement date in Jan will be 1.5QFF points per every dollar for the amex, and 0.5 QFF points per dollar for visa/MC regardless of plat/gold/normal....

well thats what I have deduced, unless proven incorrect

Diesellife,

My new MC has the same number as the old one. My new Amex has a new number but is linked directly to the dates and the MC.

Where do you get the info re new numbers and new accounts :?:

Personal - Credit cards - Expect more - Help centre - Frequent flyers - Commonwealth Bank Group

That's good enough for me.

As you can see believing what a phone monkey tells you is only going to end in tears.

At the bottom of the link, it says "Commonwealth Awards program terms and condition...."

Please see my previous post for T&C.

It clearly states that points are calculated and transferred at your statement closing date. In which case, if it falls in Feb, the new rate applies. So if you try to argue with them, you have no case.

Also this is not false/misleading advertising as some people will get 3:1, so long their statement date falls within Jan.

I got a completely new cards because I changed the statement date.
I received my first dual cards in NOV...then found out that I won't be enjoying the Jan transactions (as my previous statement closing date falls on 3rd of Feb). So I requested a change of statement date.

A 2nd set of cards sent out to me with new numbers and a new statement date. In which I double checked with them today my new statement day will fall in Jan. (So I get 1 extra month of the promotion and I can enjoy the re-newed cap) :)

This is now all too hard and I have lost interest :!:

Well done CBA.

Yes I saw that, as a T&C in the program guidelines, thanks, but the main page which explains the earning rates and dates doesn't mention it. It is still quite unclear and there is no reference at all on that page.

I went into a branch the other day and asked and they had no idea so I gave up.

I am buying gift cards and other items at the moment for hotels overseas and also for local shopping items.

Will put the bulk through the before the 5th of Jan and smaller amounts after.

Ive got new cards as well, but don't know whether I should activate them on christmas eve or activate them now, because the CBA person told me that a a statement date had been allocated, as my request, the other CBA person today told me, getting new cards wouldn't change anything, and diesellife is telling me to activate on christmas eve..........

I am F*(Kin starting to hate this bank with passion
