Comm Bank to issue AMEX... changes to QF/Velocity point earning

well, I can't exactly remember the promotional material but my impression was that as long as you earnt them before the end of the billing cycle in January, you would get 3:1 and then 1:1 BONUS for the first 5000 points,

so essentially, allowing people to get an extra 5,000 QFF points, not 2,500! if they spent their amex card, so to get them halved once you hit your feb statement seems a bit deceptive to me,

my statement date is approx 25th Jan, so does that mean, i will get my 5000 or 2500 points on the 25th of Feb???

as it seems that someone has already received their points in Feb for 5000 bonus points, something doesn't seem consistent!

The promotion was 5,000 bonus CBA Awards points.
The bonus points are awarded once the promotion is over.
The transfer rate of Awards points to QFF points after the 1st of Feb is 2:1.
Your 5,000 bonus CBA Awards points are transferred in to 2,500 QFF points.

You will get 2,500 bonus QFF points.

Kinda sorta on/off topic, but I totally ignored the offer of a CBA Amex because I was quite happy with my Citibank Platinum Visa (fee free for life and 1:1 points transfer to QFF). In the mail last week was a letter saying "Thanks for being such a great customer and here is a free gift of 10,000 points!" This was a bit puzzling as my monthly spend on my CBA Mastercard is $20 and that is only because I am too disorganised to change the card details for my newspaper subscription.

The problem is that rather than encouraging me to start spending on the MC, it just showed up what a poor earn ratio the Gold cards now have. The 10K points converted to 5K QFF! If it wasn't for the fact that the MC is bundled into the CBA Wealth Package (and effectively free) I would ditch it entirely.

My philosophy is that chasing points is only worthwhile if it costs you neither time nor money.

I have virtually stopped using CBA Amex Visa since the halving of QFF points and got all the points in QFF.

I have also received my 5000 bonus points translated to 2500 QFF points, so there's nothing more to expect.

I'm wondering whether I should tell them to cancel my opt in to QFF, thereby saving me $10/year. The fee will be due in Mar.

I don't think I'll be using the cards anymore except as backups.
Any thoughts anyone?

I'm keeping my Amex CBA card going, just not transferring into QFF. It's a good way to book some flights on points to get SC credited for a flight if you need to get a few more SC to qualify for a higher status level. You can book flights through their travelplus website, the trick is to only do it when qantas have a sale on, so you don't have to use too many points to book. The amount of points to book a flight is based purely on the cost of the flight.

I guess it depends how many points you gain?

I applied for the CBA M/C as a back up to my (soon to reach caps) two Citibank cards. The initial card was I think $125 with 20k bonus points.

With the free amex offer I have obtained approx 165k of additional points on top of the points I would have earned anyway, with my normal Citi/Amex R/M spend :)

Just cancelled this card yesterday, shortly before my 1st anniversary with them.

Those who scored big wins in the flawed Amex promotion last year would probably disagree.

I lost about 4-5 hours of my time on the phone with CBA.
I lost my decent, easy to remember card number.

I gained around 200k QFF points in the period, which I will book a return MEL-HKG in F before they take out the 3 classes metal.

Diesellife,

Personally I would consider 200,000 points for 4-5 hours of time as a good investment.

my statement date was 23rd Jan, and as of today, no bonus points :(

I hope its not another stuff up by CBA :(

my bonus points haven't been credited yet........

haven't some already received theirs?

edit, im not trying to sound like a whinger but these new changes to the site are the worst Ive ever seen, its horrible

well admittedly, my last statement released near the end of april didn't show bonus points.

I called up and mentioned this, got through to a CC specialist, got a couple of different stories, such as , you didn't get the card before dec 31, which I got it in like nov,

even got told that the system should have credited it and since it hasn't it means I wasn't eligible,
first person told me it was one billing cycle after the promotion, until he realised the promo finished in Jan or Feb,

so he said he'd call back, no call back, I called again, and got told, I didn't receive a call back because he hasn't heard back as well.....

so approx 3 statements later, and 12 weeks odd, im still wiating, has everybody got theirs yet?

I received my CBA Amex bonus points in January, and it showed up as:

"14 Jan AMEX Introductory Bonus Points Offer"

... maybe the system did it early because I changed to Gold in the last few days of the statement before this, and it had to process my points migration anyway... or maybe CBA made quite a big programming error with the promo!

got a call back from CBA CC specialist,

apparently my 5000 bonus points will be processed in by the next statement and will showon the next statement so another 2 week wait

sorta happy/sorta unhappy/sorta happy its over!

admittedly, I usually just to be fair put my money where my mouth is,
and I hate amex, but the 1.5 points vs 0.75 points with Visa/MC is far too attractive to throw away,

I mean basically you are getting double the reward for the same effort,

so ill keep my amex, but the MOMENT the ratio gets worse then it currently is, I will be cutting both cards up and throwing them away,
ive had my cc with CBA for something like 12 years now!
