So for non Amex spend, it is Citibank for QFF or Westpac for Krisflyer at 1:1!

Don't forget that Citibank also has an Emirates card that earns 1.5 points per dollar too. Certainly another option for those not particuarly tied to an airline.

I just checked the CBA website for any updates on this card and found this

After the Earth Plat and Krisflyer promotion this is a huge disapointment. I was looking forward to another 100k + of bonus points, 5000 on plat is hardly worth getting out of bed for

Do you have a link to where it actually says that on their website? I've just tried to search for about 10 mins with no success (lol).

If this is accurate, this will mean 2.5 awards points earned per $ (on Amex) during the promo, equating to 1.25 QFF points per $... As I get 1:1 on the Qantas Amex, it may be put away into the draw for a while until this promo is over (or until I reach the 1500 point cap - not too hard lol)

It seems to me that 3 points per dollar (Basic Platinum on AMEX) + 1 bonus points (Max 5000 on platinum)...4 points per dollar LOL

I think I will reach my cap very soon (Within 1month)!!!!

BTW: I don't like the new cap....Platinum gets a cap for 120000 CBA points (60000 QFF points), after this 0.5 QFF per dollar using AMEX (40000 QFF cap). What a bullsh!t...After the promotion period, the card render useless as I will reach my cap:(

Called CBA C/S today to organise an Amex to accompany my rarely used CBA M/C. The person I spoke to said that it would earn 3:1 with an additional point per $ untill Feb.

We also received a leaflet from CBA about the 3 award points for every dollar spent. However, I was not sure if this will be forever, or only for a limited time? I have fired off an email to bank manager to ask for clarification.

Our current Platinum Amex earns 1.5 award points for every dollar - in comparison. So, if the CBA Platinum Amex earns 3:1, then this seems to be a better deal.

On our current Platinum Amex we get one "free" domestic flight with Qantas each year. Does anyone know if the CBA Platinum Amex would offer this same thing? I asked Amex yesterday and they said no flight with CBA. Not sure if this is correct. Again, I have asked bank manager this question.

Regarding fees, we pay about $400 a year under the CBA wealth package to have the Platinum Mastercard - in addition we get interest rate discounts on a number of mortgages. We pay about $300 a year for the Platinum Amex.

So, if the CBA Platinum Amex earns 3:1, then this seems to be a better deal. -After Feb, earn rate will be the same compared to AMEX Plat (1.5QFF per $) but the point cap for CBA is 60000+40000 which is rubbish compared to Platinum Amex. (See my previous post)

I asked Amex yesterday and they said no flight with CBA. Not sure if this is correct. Again, I have asked bank manager this question. -(Will never offer "Free" flight on any AMEX licensed card, e.g. CBA unless they start to charge you more than 350 annual fee)

What a joke

5000 points for a Platinum card over 2 months

Given that Platinum limits are around $15,000+

PATHETIC

Thanks, Diesellife, for the answers. Well, if that was the case, then it would not be worthwhile to have the CBA Platinum Amex card after all!

The Amex is probably worthwhile for someone who doesn't already have one, providing they can match their Amex spend to that of their m/c, as this would offset the 0.5 per $ they will be losing in the future.

My cba m/c expires in Feb, so I will take the 5k, along with the 20k sign-on I received earlier in the year, and ditch it. I took it as a back-up for the 2 Citibank cards I usually use for non-Amex spend but i'll use the uncapped Krisflyer card in future!

Hmmmm, after reading the previous posts it appears the CBA Amex card will be a waste of time and my existing CBA platinum MC will only provide half the points I currently receive.

Looks like I need to find another mastercard/visa that provides 1 FF for $ and a better Amex.\

Any suggestions anyone?

Re: CBA AMEX offering

There is no way to tell whether Citibank will change their reward rate on its platinum. But then again, Citibank has never had any relationship to AMEX (Perhaps its because of the Diners Club) in any countries. So my speculation is that Citibank will not introduce dual cards system and will be likely to keep its 1:1 rate on its platinum. (Unless they start to make dual visa/diners )

Really? Citi doesnt have a relationship with AMEX?

Here are 2 of 7 that are issued in the USA

NEW YORK, December 20, 2005 -- Citibank® and American Express® announce today that they will offer consumers Citibank premium benefits and customer service through cards that are accepted wherever American Express is welcome. Plus, many of the new Citi American Express Cards reward cardmembers for doing what they already do, like making purchases at grocery and drug stores, or putting gas in the car.

NEW Commonwealth Platinum Rewards

Not much change really..I have mine already.
3 for1 using Amex . 1 for 1 using Visa/ Mastercard . STILL CAPPED at 150,000. BUT...... you can earn another 100,000 after reaching your cap only on the supplementary Amex at the reduced rate of 1 to 1. The maximum points accrued will be capped at 250,000.

Hope this helps.

So from when we receive the Amex card until the end of Jan

3 points per $1 spent, and this can go to QFF.

I think this is correct from reading the T&C's

Not bad for this Xmas period :D

apologies if this has been answered but I just wanted to confirm somethign,

I currently have a CBA plat card so 1:1 ratio

so the Amex card if I get it is linked to the same account so its the same statement, without any additional annual/supp card fees?

the amex plat is 3:1 for a limited time and will be 2:1 after teh promo period

I am thinking of getting the plat amex card and using it for the higher ratio of points especially when the promo period is on and after the promo period expires because the ratio is higher, so I use the amex whnevere possilbe and the MC other times,

also the annual fee will increase from $200 to $250 or $280.

if this is the case I will close both the cards and try and get to become a supp account holder on one of my family members fee free for life citibank platinum.

also I did notice on my netbanking that the updated format used to say "annual fee : $200" now it does not say anything,

so I am hoping to god that they have wiaved the fee for at least one more year.....

thanks everyone

EDIT: ive loosely tried the cancel threat to have the annual fee waived but its never worked, if the annual fee is raised, I will defintely try the threat to cancel again, but obviously with full intention to, does this still work, I also have a Visa fee free and it really hurts to have to pay $200 or even $250 for a card! it really does

Except that it's capped at 5000 points :(

Just have to get the xmas shopping out of the way this month, while the Krisflyer card is still paying 3:1 (uncapped).

I plan to prepay as many bills as I can for next month and also have an ATO bill of over 100k to pay this month ;)
