There's this though:

As a Platinum Velocity Member you can enjoy complimentary Diamond Elite Membership in the Hilton Honors Program for a 6 month period. And if you stay 4 times at any Hilton Worldwide property within the 6 months your complimentary membership will be extended out to 12 months

I would hope I would stay at a Hilton at least 4 times in 6 months to enjoy the benefits (esp Exec Club anytime).

Lexus or Mercedes for $230-250 a week every second month is not a bad perk!

My rentals are for max. 2 days but predominently just a single day. Many deals are 5 days this or seven days that. Really points bonuses is mostly all I get or a one car group upgrade.

Another downside of Hertz (as spoken of last night) is a 200km day limit out of some regional ports. Europcar is unlimited.

In that case if I was you I would not be to fussed, and I would be crediting to VS ;). BTW Only get 100km in DRW, including Europcar!

Does anyone here know whether the comp memberships will be for the same period as your Velocity Status OR whether they are for 12 months from the time you activate them. I am going to take up the HiltonHonours offer BUT i won't actually get around to staying in any of their premises til October at the earliest. So, should i wait til i'm ready to book a Hilton before taking it up or does it make no difference?

Given its a 6month membership for HH with PLat, I would wait!

That is quite a reduction in the long term benefit of this benefit. It is great for a status match now but wont be part of a decision for me to switch completely to VA as I initially considered.

You just need to time when you apply for it, and understand the 6 month use it or lose it provision. Use it 4 times and it gets extended to 12 months. Don't use it 4 times, and you lose it after 6 months.

To be honest, I think this tie up with other programs is actually a strong point of differentiation from the QFF program. There are some good partner benefits there, and while they don't last forever, with the right timing, there are some good benefits to be had.

Getting the Hilton Benefit might actually sway me in taking up the Velocity offer.

Hilton is usually a yearly based thing and I am already Hilton Gold but I don't like my chances of qualifying to keep the status. Joining Velocity and I could potentially get Diamond, I have 4 stays planned in the next 6 months. I am wondering how the timing works.

Now that there is a possible Double Flounge AFF planned, return to Melbourne on Virgin Australia.

Hire cars are completely useless for me.

I am Diamond [BIB] at the moment (will last until end of March 2012), but to requalify for even Gold this year is looking doubtful (too many cheap Accor offers :p).

So this is very interesting to me. ;)

Velocity Status Match

Now with the status match promotion - I can finally justify shifting all my flying to VA as I'm Velocity Silver - but QF Gold - so the match promotion has come nicely in time and much appreciated.

As I'm a VA paid lounge member, I know that if you reached gold on your own merit, they would refund the unused portion of the membership fee - do you think this will still happen with getting Gold through the status match promo?

Be interesting to see what impact this has on number in the lounge in the future.

Okay matching request forwarded. Let's see if they grant. Have to say I'm looking forward to trying out the VA program after everything that has happen at QF.

Has anyone actually successfully registerd for Europcar Elite from their Velocity account. I keep getting an unable to complete error.

The HH Diamond will be beneficial for me. Currently, I'm HH Gold til March 2013 (thanks to MVP fast track). Assuming I'm matched to Velocity Platinum for 1 year, I can apply for HH Diamond in say September 2012, have 4 stays in the subsequent 6 months and be Hilton Diamond til Sept 2013 (but HH status usually goes til the end of March), so maybe I'll be HH Diamond til March 2014; so with 4 timely status I'll have Hilton status til March 2014. IIRC, HH unfortunately, does not do soft landings otherwise the deal will even be better!

This sounds like a good plan to me.

Assuming the match comes through (I can't see why it won't but I'm quite sure I read that they do not guarantee it, and for some reason I take a pessimistic view of these things ) I also am thinking HH Diamond would be very good. Off to SIN in January - stayed in an executive room at the Conrad last January but costs were shared with SO. This year I'll be solo so the opportunity to book into a 'base' room, and maybe get an upgrade, but still get executive lounge access regardless as well as free wi-fi in the room is very attractive. I could probably manage 4 stays in 6 months to extend the membership - requal would be diffficult though (although with a RTW trip tenatatively planned for mid-next year, maybe I can)!

Assuming status match to Velocity Platinum is approved I'm in a similar situation. Currently I'm HH Gold til March 2012 through MVP, and have no real hope of re qualifying. Assuming I'm matched to Velocity Platinum for 1 year in September, I'll apply for HH Diamond when Gold expires in April 2012. 4 stays is 6 months is easy, and I'll keep HH Diamond until at least March 2013 and maybe even March 2014.

It really is a great benefit - well done Velocity. :D
