No invite for me!:( Even did a late night run up the driveway in the rain after reading your posts but no exciting letter to be found...

Has anyone found out if there is an end date? I'd also like to leave it as late as possible to apply.

Answered my own question by ringing Amex this morning. Was advised that there is no closing date, it is an ongoing benefit of membership. I was also told that it will take about 6 weeks for membership to be processed. Given that information I will not be applying straight away.

Another 'hidden' ask or you wont get 'benefit' ????

Platinum Charge Card holder and received my offer a few days ago.

Given I was comped Gold this year (only 550SC's of flying for my year ending 30th June) I don't really have a need for it right now. Might hang onto it and see if i need it a few years down the track. Status run planned for July next year so all should be sweet for a while.

I called the guest contact centre and was told something different in regards to the expiry date: 'Applications received after February 2012 may not be granted gold Marco Polo status... You must requalify within the 12 month period in order to maintain gold status upon your membership anniversary.'

It makes sense to me, as I don't think CX would want to keep this as a perpetual offer, unlike Starwood Gold (which costs a lot less to maintain). I am happy with the timing though, because it replaces DJ pulling Priority Pass access from their lounges, and benefits people like me who have not yet achieved QF gold.

I've submitted mine and won't have to worry about my QF status and having to do status runs and wasting $$$.

The fancy brochure / card we received stated that it was for 1 year only, not a perpetual offer. Starwood gold is also only for 1 year, not perpetual, you have to requalify each year to retain membership. It was for that reason that I rang to see if there was an expiry date for application, ie. given that it was only for 1 year I want to time my period of membership to my maximum benefit. However as posted above I was told there was no expiry date for application, that is I could chose when to apply at any time I was a Platinum Charge card holder. I will maybe ring back next week and get another opinion, and as a lot of us know there are as many opinions as there are CSRs :p

I have been told over the phone by both Amex and Starwood that the SPG Gold is perpetual and annual re-qualification is not necessary so long as you continue to hold the platinum charge card.

SPG Gold? meh ...

I can confirm this is true because I have been an ongoing Gold Starwood member since the offer begun (3+ years ago). There have been some years where I have not even stayed at Starwood hotels at all, but I still receive a nice, new shiny Gold card after each qualification period.

I stand corrected! I only took up the SPG membership about 6 weeks ago and was told by the CSR at the time that my membership was only for 1 year and I would need to requalify myself to retain membership. Like I said there is a different opinion every time you speak to a CSR :) You, however have the proof that what I was told was incorrect, which is good news as I can't see myself staying with them a lot.

Yep SPG gold is perpetual - I've had it for a few years now.

Also got the CX offer in the big envelope yesterday. Got the black envelope the week before and thought at first maybe it was a Centurion invite but was only the new booklet.

But then in the mail yesterday there was another black envelope ... this time with a Centurion logo on it. I think that's telling me I've been spending too much in the last few months (or maybe years...)

Hi All,

If we already have a Asiamiles account but not Marco Polo membership, can we link this complimentary gold account to my current AM account?

Thanks,
K.

Off the top of my Head, I would assume the answer to be yes.

MPC is an additional membership to Asia Miles and those Asia Miles members joining the MPC generally keep their AM number.¹

¹ FWIW, those joining MPC directly without having an Asia Miles number get automatically enrolled in AM. I guess it would be prudent to carefully ensure that those enrolling you are aware of your existing AM membership and use that number rather than creating a new one.

This is my understanding also, part of your $900 fee.....

Hi,

Is there a link to the benefits/memberships the AUS amex plat have? The amex site I have a feeling doesn't list everything....e.g. CX MPC Gold etc

Thanks,
K.

I rang Amex again today to recheck information on the Marco Polo offer. Applications for membership to close end of Feb '12, and the advise previously given that membership is only for 1 year and that you must meet CXs requirements to requalify was confirmed.

I have had this offer siting on my desk for a while. Not returned the form as would be no benefit to me even though I will be flying on CX in September

Nice to see NZ'ers not being forgotten

Jeff
