Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Removal of cheap Any Seat awards and upsetting a few AFFers is not going to be the end of Qantas.

That is not our concern its being kept in the dark.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

<snip>

And by the looks of things AFFers think cheap Any Seat awards were a much better deal for them than Qantas. Why do you need to have an explanation for their removal? <snip>

Because it would be courteous and respectful, JohnK. To, you know, the customers whose custom sustains the company.

Think of almost any situation where you take something away from somebody - a FF perk, a child's toy, someone's liberty, their property. Now: is there generally a better outcome if you tell them why something's been taken away - or is it better if you just take it and walk away with no communication?

I'll let you think a bit on that one.

...

Do you get it now?

Air Canada recently strongly 'enhanced' their eUpgrade program. Large devaluation of worth (now requires a cash co-pay!). At least they e-mailed out their FF members with words to the effect of 'In order to make the eUpgrade program sustainable ..." Didn't make it any more palatable, but at least they were up-front about it. Not like Qantas.

<snip>

Oh, and the next "enhancement" is going to be about money as well.

Of course its about money  As much as I currently have contempt for QF management, I don't think they sit around all day thinking up ways to pixx customers off. Even if sometimes you'd swear that they do.

Maybe using liberty & property is a bit of a stretch although some people are reacting like a kids toy has been taken away

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Just ease of use and less wasted time in the MASA lottery, its inconvenient, if Q had been up front is it being done away with? or can we have them back online?then the hundreds of posts here would have been unnecessary.

With respect, your comment is uncalled for.

While you are entitled to your opinions, trying to belittle fellow AFFers is rather below the belt.

All we are asking for is some communication on what's being enhanced from a listed company.

Travel, to some of us, involves planning and evaluation of 'values'.

That requires some forward certainty.

Is that childish in your world view ?

You are entitled to your views but I beg to disagree for the reasons above.

I accept that on Internet forum, there are a variety of standards - high to abysmal.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Qantas managed to survive after removing Anytime access to lounges.

Qantas has managed to survive for not quite getting priority boarding right.

Qantas has managed to survive for not status matching Velocity Gold and Platinum.

Qantas will manage to survive after the removal of cheap Any Seat awards.

Life goes on but Jetstar worries me though....

Better watch out JohnK, they might get rid of the Qantas OneWorld Award.

Lets go back to Anytime Access to lounges. Again.

The explanation given was overcrowding of lounges. Do you believe it? I dont. It is a lie and a few days later Qantas was selling discount memberships to Qantas clubs.I lost an important benefit yet the decision was divided on AFF with many saying it did not effect them.

So what good is an explanation here? Does it matter? Qantas feels cheap Any Seat awaards are under review despite what a few AFFers think

Most people dont care for my opinion too much but one of the reasons this is under review is abuse..

Some people in this thread are behaving childishly. Move on with life. Redeem what you were redeeming 2 years before cheap Any Seat awards. Evolve. Find another way to earn SCs. Most of us are doing that already....

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

So buying a QF-offered product at the asking price is "abuse", but buying cheap Asian CX fares for QFF SCs is just good strategy?
Why bring CX into it? Or even MH? Or even AA YUP fares?

Lets bring the NAN runs into it which have disappeared. Abused much?

Obviously Qantas thinks offering SCs and QFF points for a measly few $ more than a classic award is not a fair exchange. Qantas wants to make more money out of expensive Any Seat awards.

Why is it so difficult to people to understand this? Stop being greedy and move on and find other ways to abuse the system.

Forgive my ignorance, but what were the NAN runs?

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Obviously

No. That's just your opinion. Another plausible scenario is that they haven't got a freakin' clue about IT, and that purported "abuse" hasn't even entered into the equation.

Several of your mails (albeit only a small percentage of the 21,666 total) have been along the lines of "you guys didn't care when I got upset about ATA removal, so ha ha ha".

I really wouldn't call others childish if I were you.

It is where people used to go BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN and return in business class for ~AUD1,000 and with double SCs would earn ~720SCs

No. That's just your opinion. Another plausible scenario is that they haven't got a freakin' clue about IT, and that purported "abuse" hasn't even entered into the equation.
Sure it is just my opinion. Big deal.

Losing Anytime access is irrelevant in this discussion.

I liked Any Seat awards and was going to use them when I was going to do my round the world.

And I am sorry it is childish carrying on saying Qantas cannot remove cheap Any Seat awards as we will lose our way to earn cheap SCs and we need an explanation. Qantas needs to tell you nothing.

Just live with the decision.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

There have been posts on AFF from people whose work pays for business class, first class, business RTW, first class RTW, top notch hotel rooms etc, criticising self-funded status chasers for finding creative ways to earn status and that we did not deserve to have status as they fly on more expensive airfares.

Big deal....

Do enlighten us as to "the decision". Nothing is known, your speculation to the contrary notwithstanding.

Of course nothing is known and it is just speculation on my part.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Qantas can make all the changes they like within the rules. It's their program. But this whole death by a thousand cuts is quite disturbing. It's off, not off, off again and now marginally on but under review. I suspect they were caught on the hop when this change was "accidentally" leaked. But surely Qantas management are the Masters of Spin and could have dealt with this more decisively.

I am too young to have ever tried entering a speakeasy. But I am reminded of what I've read - one had to knock on the back door at the right time, know the magic password and if you got a friendly doorman, in you went. And that's the status quo with MASAs. Not good enough. I can't wait for the outcome of this review if only so this issue will be put to bed for once and for all.

Qantas wants to make more money out of expensive Any Seat awards.

People actually buy the full price ASAs? Some of the flights I have looked at want more points than I have ever had!

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Better watch out JohnK, they might get rid of the Qantas OneWorld Award.

Before I have had a chance to spend my 1,000,000+ QFF points?

I would cry, chuck a tantrum, feel that life is conspiring against me, threaten never to fly Qantas ever again, think of ways to spend my points and then move on with life.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Would anyone know what the date of the Qantas email(s), as well as the subject heading(s) were that anounced about the ASA no longer allowed online, fee waived when it's booked over the phone?

Made another call to check / verify costs/points for 2 people, with todays rate quoted 128,000 points and $459.72 (tax's) each per person (total tax: $919.44).

My previous call quoted 256,000 points and $667.32 in taxes (for 2 people total?)

Destination / date used for both quotes is: July 9th, 2014 between Melbourne & New York (Via L.A.). QF 93 to Melb / QF 107 from LA to NY.

Don't even kid about that "enhancement" :(

I've used 4 of these awards including one great J one :)

That's probably just QF enhancing(increasing) taxes/fuel fines
