re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The number of people who do ASA/JASAs for a status run would be tiny! Yes a few of us on here know about it and do it, but we are tiny in the scheme of things

Maybe so but the advantage of QF over other airlines, say SQ was that you get points/SCs for award flights.
I'm a member of both frequent flyer programs (QFF and Krisflyer) and in terms of number of points required for an Award QF (especially in J) is considerably more expensive than SQ for the same route.
The only reason we preferred QF was because you get points/SCs.

However if this is ASAs are going to be stopped they are going to have to lower their prices for Classic Awards considerably to remain competitive. If not, I would say they have nothing to gain from such a move, but potential, an awful lot to lose. In my opinion.

Not that it will do any good im sure

But have sent an email to lesley Grant to see if she can throw any light on this story. If there is no basis for concern I am sure she will advise as she did last time when this topic arose. :D

I agree as well!

But I just find it VERY interesting that Virgin started to allow SC to be earnt on award seats & then the 20% off award seat bookings.. then QF followed with their limited 20% of sale......

I'd say the spies in Qantas have been giving great feedback to Virgin, hence the changes from Virgin

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

My guess, and its pure speculation, is that they may well remove the name/term Any Seat Award, but add the capability to move the slider between $$$ and points in any booking. So you could choose to use points, or money or some combination of each for "any seat" you purchase through qantas.com.au.

So if that is true, then yes ASA as a name/term/product would go. But the ability to book any seat using points would remain. But the question would be around the exchange rate for points used in this manner.

I think they're going to pull the classic buckets, which for me will be the end of ASAs, and most likely QFF for me.

Best change my Earth Black to Altitude perhaps...

Hasn't 'Points + Pay' been available for years?

There has, but I think NM might mean make the slider similar to current ASA rates, making it much more attractive compared to the appalling rates on offered now.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

One thing I have definitely noticed in recent months, regardless of what may happen with ASA's: International "U" seats seem to have become extremely thin on the ground, to the point where they are for practical purposes unavailable. Previously, if you needed only a single seat and were prepared to be flexible with dates and day of week, it was usually relatively easy to find "U" seats a few months out; not any more!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Does Virgin have a similar set up to QF whereby if the "classic" class is available they will offer a discounted "ASA" like QF does?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The cost of not using a point on an ASA is about 0.8 cents per point. What is the cost for points plus pay?

Not something I've ever been able to coax their booking engine into offering.

Roughly the same. The problem with points+pay is that it excludes the "classic" awards and their rather nice nominal dollar value!

The JASAs we booked today were more than 10 per cent more in points than 2 months ago.

Time to update the thread title, I think.

More gossip and hearsay. When 18/5 comes around and nothing happens will you shift the goalposts yet again?

Prices/taxes/points/whatever went up on the 10th of April.... funny that.......

As someone else said, the choice is yours, make of this rumour/information/fact as you want, but the constant provide proof/you were wrong/change the goalposts rambling is getting old

Yes, but I think it may be seen as the "replacement" for ASA. So they can say that the concept of an ASA is still available, but the terminology may be retired (or enhanced if you prefer the term).

But this is pure speculation as I have no inside knowledge and have not had any discussions with any QF staff regarding my theory - and some people here know about my theories ;).

Actually, what's getting old is the constant repetition of the gossip: ASAs are going to be axed on 8 April/10 April/18 May/insert date here when previous date is passed.

And I do draw your atention to the OP's original - and continuing - claim that ASAs will be axed/removed/abolished. He/she is saying they are going altogether, not just being modified in some way.

May I respectfully suggest that if all this bugs you so much, then don't read the thread any more. Gossip, speculation, opinion and rumour is the bread of forums like this. It may drive you nuts, but its good to know that it all goes away if you don't click on the thread. :) Just naysaying the OP or other posters just doesn't contribute that much.
