Maybe so but the advantage of QF over other airlines, say SQ was that you get points/SCs for award flights.
I'm a member of both frequent flyer programs (QFF and Krisflyer) and in terms of number of points required for an Award QF (especially in J) is considerably more expensive than SQ for the same route.
The only reason we preferred QF was because you get points/SCs.
However if this is ASAs are going to be stopped they are going to have to lower their prices for Classic Awards considerably to remain competitive. If not, I would say they have nothing to gain from such a move, but potential, an awful lot to lose. In my opinion.
The number of people who do ASA/JASAs for a status run would be tiny! Yes a few of us on here know about it and do it, but we are tiny in the scheme of things
