Clever...perhaps, Dangerous a certainty, implementation foolish...!

resistance is futile...?

Resistance is not futile! This is one of QF's best selling points!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

We are always looking at ways to improve the member experience. As recently as 2 weeks ago we hosted many of the AFF members at Rockpool where we got some great ideas. We can confirm that Any Seat Awards are here to stay and many members enjoy the flexibility of being able to purchase any fare using points.
When there is any news we will do our best to make sure that AFF are among the first to know.

I thought this thread was dead... In this post there is no mention of an increase in ASA's point required or the loss of SC's for ASA's.

If there is some type of "enhancement" all it does it is lessens the QF brand and thus the loyalty of its members. Come on AJ and Red Roo, today's savings are tomorrow's losses!

I don't buy the "outside of Qantas' control.

@ moa - I don't think you actually read my post. I asked QF to honour the status bonus points for the booking I made with BA (partially made based on the basis of the points earn) given they gave < 3 months feedback. A "no" response would have been preferable to no response.

I think the qantas club lounge debacle sufficiently demonstrated that qantas has no control over BA. If being entirely separate companies didn't already confirm it. In any case, the notice period is not guaranteed in the T&Cs due to the bit at the end about "where possible".

It's Qantas' frequent flyer program, they can choose to credit more SC's/points for a period of time if they wish.

Different IMO.

QF can't make BA let pax into lounge.

QF CAN award FF points in their own program.

As for the weasel words of "where possible" - well it's "possible" for QF to award points on bookings made prior to the announcement (up to 3 months).

YMMV.

You both know very well that BA pays Qantas for the points. no pay, no points is fair to me.

yes - but if I decide to rearrange my business and form new alliances that mean my previous alliances no longer want to come to the party... why should the passenger suffer? If the change by a partner is directly caused by my actions, then I should make the situation right. (if that's what happened here.)

Interesting Red Roo has still has not replied to this on going thread. Makes me nervous about the allegedly enhancements coming.

Me too sent email to Lesley Grant when this first re-surfaced and no response to date. When this runor first appeared Lesley was pretty quick at getting back

Why? Simply because the T&Cs say they don't have to do so. To add to that, lets go into hypothetical land for a second. The complaint here is that 3 months notice wasn't given. Lets pretend that 3 months notice was provided. There are still 9 months worth of bookings that are affected by the change that have absolutely no right to compensation as demanded here. The other missing bit of information is whether the bookings people here have made were inside or outside the 3 month notice period. Are we trying to demand extra points for flights that would never have been eligible for those points even if the full notice was given?

In any case, for benefits provided by a third party the notice period is 30 days. The notice given was 17 days, IIRC. So only 13 days of eligible flights missed out.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I would suggest this.

If your intended ASA, JASA or FASA is point to point, you probably don't need to do anything, or panic, about "enhancements".

bossreggie - this almost seems to suggest QF simply tightening the burn to match classic awards (i.e. if you choose to go via a point, the points required for the two sectors individually are added together)? I am assuming those who have no choice in connecting (e.g. BNE-HBA) where there is no direct flight will not be penalised...

Just spitballing...

I just pray it's not a more sinister old Virgin trick of awarding SCs based on origin and destination distance rather than per sector!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Possibly related - or not.

Got an alert today that several of my flights had changed - all JASA's - all had the same change - the text in the Restrictions Field was removed for each booking.

Strange.

Same here, the update in my JASA booking in the comments field has updated to "No Restrictions Noted".

Actually not correct anymore - VA have changed their SC earn to be based on each sector, not the origin and destination. So VA have improved and (if actually changing) QF will have enhanced!

yes that's why he referred to it as 'the old virgin trick'.

Ah sorry I read it in my head in the Maxwell Smart "ah the old .... trick" meaning something that still happens from time to time, rather than being something they used to do!

All good. I did mean it as aussie_flyer suggested. I could've worded it more clearly.
