re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Possibly related - or not.

Got an alert today that several of my flights had changed - all JASA's - all had the same change - the text in the Restrictions Field was removed for each booking.

Strange.

Where's this text Knid?

Strange.

Out of the MyFlights app, or a similar monitoring service?

I got the same today from MyFlights, but it showed the same alert/change for four of the five bookings I'm monitoring, only two of which are QF JASAs (the other two are SQ award flights). So I'd guess an app or GDS change, not something specific to QF?

Where's this text Knid?

See above :-)

I'm guessing not related then - I had 3/10 alerts all JASAs.

Is it new that the QF iphone app "book flight" option now comes up with a choice on the payment page of "use money" or "use points + pay", or have I just never noticed it before?

The same option doesn't come up on the payment page on my desktop. (Yet?)

Interesting Red Roo has still has not replied to this on going thread. Makes me nervous about the allegedly enhancements coming.

The response a while back sounded pretty clear to me so if they're indeed now turning around completely but just a month later, I would also rather hide in the bushes if I was a red roo!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Still no word from QF or evidence about the removal of ASA's.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Emailed direct to lesley Grant about 2 weeks ago and NO response what so ever from her or any one at QF so thinking something is happening.

A no response usually means "yes" something is happening.... Nice of Red Roo to pop in and tell us that nothing was happening, but the silence is golden

As I posted earlier it is not the end of the world.

Anytime lounge access ended a couple of years ago and that was way more than important than ultra cheap Any seat awards that earn SCs and QFF points.

Nice of Red Roo to pop in and tell us that nothing was happening, but the silence is golden
Having met both Red Roo's this is not their decision and they would not be in a position to confirm or deny and certainly not post that decision on AFF.

they already did! RR said ASAs are here to stay (and despite the views of some other AFFers - which would need to be generous in the extreme towards QF - I certainly I got the impression from RR's statement that there were going to be NO changes - that is, here to stay and stay the way they are).

I agree. After chatting to ALL Red Roos' boss at the recent Adelaide drinks I get the impression that there are changes afoot but not earth shattering ones.
My GUESS after the chat (and I repeat "guess" and I am not attributing this to anyone) is that the change to one booking engine instead of three may result in some nomenclature changes

Any seat awards are staying.

One point with this silly argument I do not understand is I have been reading on AFF for 2-3 years now how cheap Any Seat awards are and how people have been exploiting them to earn status.

At the same time my extremely cheap, simple SYD-BNE airfares have gone from $65 to $95-$99 for sale airfares and from $95 to $131 for ordinary airfares. These are the cheap tickets. Not flexible. Not business.

Please explain why you think Any seat awards should remain at the same levels considering that people have been exploting them? Do you think Any seat awards should remain the same, or even less, and only the fuel surcharge cost increae the same as domestic red e-deals?

Yes and there are still a few changes I am very bitter about. :(

defintion according to google of Exploit: Make full use of and derive benefit from (a resource)

I don't understand why you think they should change?

a cheap ASA is just a basic level award seat with a premium cash component over an already available classic award. This is pretty much the same as a jetstar bundle - you are paying for the points and SCs.

Qantas will tell you that you can't really price it as being 'cheap' - because there is absolutely no correlation between points and a cash value :p

I don't understand why you think they should change?

I am not the one making the decision. If it indeed does happen.

I am just telling everyone the same thing people told me when I lost many of my important benefits. It is not the end of the world and if you do not like the changes there are other programs around.

And perhaps Qantas is deciding the points component is not enough. It is their decision and they have every right to make changes as they see fit.

But let's wait and see if this change actually happens before getting worked up over it.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The whispers posted in this thread leave me to consider that the current ASA booking engine will be decommissioned and it will become basically part and parcel of the current points and pay.

If that happens then the advantages experienced with the great Circle origin/destination distance based minimum points amount coupled with routing rules for indirect routes could be become a thing of the past.

i.e. The cost for earning 100 SC on CBR-xSYD-HBA for 16K point and $150 would increase to become something like 24K points and $600+.

Of, course, this is just conjecture.
