Fascinating. Thanks for the reports.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Yeah I just booked my two status runs: Sydney>Brisbane>Townsville>Brisbane>Sydney... and Sydney>Auckland>Brisbane>Sydney. Those two should net me 800 SC then I will only be 290 SC away from WP with 6 months to get that... Or I may even try and fit in one more trip before my double SC run out on June 30!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

It is 10 past midnight on the 18th. Did my JASA world end?

Not yet - at 35 minutes past midnight I just finished making a couple of precautionary fully-refundable JASAs bookings for just before my status year ends (almost 12 months away), just in case the JASA world does end sometime in the next 23.5 hours and I end up short on SCs for WP requalification :-)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I guess we'll see if the web servers and DNS servers update over the weekend to direct us to a new website ;)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Just looked at DRW-xBNE-TSV, many sold out but found one at ~46k a year out... one way.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Just looked at SYD BNE TSV return on Oct 19 as a test.

Have the same route booked for 10 June for a DSC run. taxes were only $87.56

Cant get my Activity statement to load on QF website to confirm how many points I used for the 10 June flights, but around 48,000 sounds about right as is displayed below

Ouch Red Roo!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Just looked at a BNE-HBA (via SYD). Exactly the same minimum points (24k) and taxes ($171) as it was yesterday. This books into U class.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Always interesting to have a look at changes over two years:

june11.jpg

And today:

May13.jpg

A 25% increase in points required, at least the points being swapped by cash rate is still good value.

which seems to support the idea the extra charges are a 'bundle' for points and SCs.

As a data point cheap FASAs are still there on the ame date as classic awards. Will wait and see it this remains after the weekend.

I found some old e-tickets a few weeks back and the cash part of a BNE-HBA has similarly gone up...but they have been increasing over time. I'm just glad we've still got our classic award inventory available as well as our great circle distance minimum points requirement.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I am being convinced to use the slider now that the free and 0.48 cent points have been crimped by so many credit cards. It has become a time for austerity that I had been ignoring for several years.
I can see that using the slider plus using a bonus points credit card is going to be a new Qantas points source for our family from now on.
Thanks for driving that concept into my thoughts. Have taken on board the concept of doing long cuts provided they are not too inconvenient.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Seems there are some changes to definition of a Trip in the T&Cs effective 1 sept. I'll post later when I get a proper chance to look at them. Wonder if this affects ASAs.

I saw these yesterday - seems only to remove the old BA "trip" references.

..and even then, from Sept 2013.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Just looking at a random date HKG-SYD-CNS in Y one way. Not that I would use an ASA for a Y trip but I'm sure some do. And I'm not aware if this illustration would have been the same before May 18. On a Red E-deal, same flights same date, ASA is minimum 19,000 points plus HKD4490.35. A fully paid Red E-deal is HKD4190.00. Makes sense.

It was around 67000 points actually. For 48000 pts, the $ cost was $264.74

Based on the above eg. the cost of a JASA return Syd-Bne-Tsv with mininum pts (48000) has gone up by ($348.46 - $264.74 / $264.74) x100 = 31.6% ! Inflation is not that high!!

Are my calculations correct...? 19k QFF = $40...? plus you would also earn SC's I guess....

WhY bother...

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Thanks for the comparison markis10!

But you forgot to mention that for the price difference of $140.12 you are now allowed to check in a second piece baggage :-)
