All coming from the OP's reputable source? Sounded a lot like Chinese whispers really.

two separate sources IIRC. Both from reservations.

The point is - nothing at all is lost. You either took the advice of the potential change and acted or you didn't. No one is out of pocket.

Still sounded like Chinese whispers (even more the second time) considering that we had the verified source release a statement denying that ASA's were on their way out...

unfortunately the verified source has not always had the most up to date information. As I said - there is absolutely no loss to anyone. had the information proved correct everyone would have gained. I can't see the issue.

.......No one is out of pocket.

I didn't act on the advice, but some people may have and they may indeed be out of pocket.

However, it is everyone's own responsibility to decide how to act on unverified info from the interwebs.

Exactly. While everyone is responsible for their own choices. It is false to claim no one is out of pocket. Simply changing the timing of a purchase could result in people being out of pocket.

Its pretty easy to unsubscribe from this thread too ;)

That suggests you subscribed in the first place ;)

As with anything not in a press release, and even then, things change, and I don't think members here should be shooting the messengers just because a rumour didn't eventuate. It provided for some good discussion, ASA's are refundable aren't they (?) and I don't think anyone here booked flights they wouldn't have booked at another time.

Too often it seems like we want to lynch someone here :p

I Agree Medhead, we all have the information, and we all have to make decisions as a result of the information supplied.

It's prudent to read the threads and make ones own assessment, from this a logical decision can be processed, while it may turn out to be a decision on incorrect information, there is equally a chance that the information is correct, or correct in some part, time also will affect the outcomes since there will never be any definitive long term answer provided by the Red Roo's at QFF.....There will always be winners & losers, but the more you hang around on this site the more informed you will be, effectively "winning" more than "losing"

As always, buyer beware, if we were talking about a financial product then there would be a disclaimer to cover this site.

I imagine something like this is practical advice for the content in this thread...

ASA's are refundable aren't they (?)

Depends on the fare conditions.

and I don't think anyone here booked flights they wouldn't have booked at another time.

You don't think anyone here might have wanted to wait another couple of weeks, or more, before purchasing to see if they got a double SC offer, for example?

JASAs booked as a business saver ex UK are non changeable or refundable.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

maybe the Qantas management were furious that the new date got leaked here and they have changed the date again just to mess with us? Isn't that what was spoken about when the first 'deadline' came and went.

I have it on good authority from someone-who-is-definitely-in-the-know that the actual date is now June 22nd. *

Now that you've posted that, you know that something WILL actually change on June 22 and there'll be a lynch mob, right?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

we can't help what we are told directly by QF staff.

blame them, not the thread.

You were told by the official Qantas rep to this forum and the CEO of QF that it wasnt true.

I know who I'd choose to believe if given them on one side and some random friend of a cousin of a friend of a baggage handler who heard it in the lunchroom on the other side.

Yes that was the excuse given by those desperate not to lose face in this thread :)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Seriously, people posted here in good faith with info to be taken at face value, which we as educated travellers get to make our own decision on. yet they cop flack for doing so.

Bad joo joo.

I'm hoping this thread will get locked.
It was a stupid rumour to begin with and it's time to let it die.
Rumours are good.

Sometimes they are true.

No - I wasn't told by the CEO. That also came via a third party. The QF rep, with all due respect, does not always know what the latest is (BA lounge access). Not to forget the comments of bossreggie. Those all have to be weighed against two independent reports from reservations that ASAs were going to be withdrawn.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I actually saved - booked my fav. akl/lax redemption earlier than intended based on this thread - after the initial date that was indicated this jumped in the copay by NZD200...

Thanks OP :D

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

So ASA's are still here but the copay has gone up? Is that the gist of it all?

Basically.

I did notice some minor difference in the booking forms last night. ASA search seems to require nomination of cabin class - Y, J, F. Took me ages to figure that out when it was only showing Y fares. A couple of other improvements I can't exactly recall.
