re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Has there been another price rise after the outage overnight, I have not seen TSV DRW at almost 46000 points before, it was 30000 for two years ago by comparison, so QF inflation is running at 25% PA??

Not for a SYD-ADL flight I've been tracking. 4xY seats was 36000*+$437, now 36000+$438. (At classic award points level it's was 48000+$338 increased to $339.) having said that, I did think the full point cost was 19000 odd last week, now it's in the 21000 odd range.

* I'd be very interested if anyone can explain why (domestic?) YASAs have a minimum points cost lower than the classic awards points level. Haven't seen this for JASA

same also for some Int'l YASA

eg SYD-LAX = 48000 classic, 36000 YASA
SYD-DFW = 56000 classic , 42000 YASA

Thanks. I find it a bit strange. Sure I can save more points but it also pushes up the dollar cost.

I normally solve the conundrum by deciding domestic YASA are extremely poor value. ;)

yeah
i sometimes face the conundrum when i dont have enough points for 4 x jasa's to cater for the +1 and kids so end up needing a Y or 2 one way.....and $$$ value of a y one way is pretty poor too!

there are some good routes where it can be excellent value, e.g. LST-MEL-CBR for 5000 points + $. worked out much cheaper than the cost of a normal fare when I booked that route recently.

5,000 or 50,000 ?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

yes 5000. On the day I booked it was $150-$200 cheaper than the price of a normal red e-deal. I found that pretty decent value.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

but it wouldn't be 2x5000 as a JASA right?

No as mentioned above the cheapest price in miles is the same as a classic award when in business. But in economy they do start at a lower mileage than a classic award but with higher co-pay. Ex-LST there is no J anyway so it's a waste.

I think the YASA base points cost is discounted by 3000 points over the classic Y award on domestic flights.. J the same base points cost, just to confirm

J is not the same cost on some routes.......

There isn't an across the board discount of the base, classic points level for JASA. In the context being discussed for YASA on all routes a couple of exceptions for JASA isn't really relevant.

Its hardly a couple, probably over 50% of the routes this applies to including many international options and it is applicable because it applies to Y as well as J.

Context markis context. Domestic flights for a start and the discount is for direct flights not some connecting flights only. You are talking about a separate thing. It is irrelevant to what was being discussed, which is the lower base points requirement for YASA. I'm not sure why you feel the need to prove me wrong but using irrelevance and ignoring the context doesn't help you to do that. I have nothing more to say to you about this.

There have been a few posts saying business is always down to the classic level without the use of the word direct or domestic, you are right, it is all in the context ;).

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

QF has finalised their decision on the ASA situation. From tomorrow 26th June when the new search engine is fully functional ASAs that contain the same inventory as classic awards being P, U, Z, X will NOT be available on Qantas.com - you will still be able to book these as ASAs but only through the call centre - you need to specify. QF did in fact want to remove the ASA completely but thanks to this thread saw the backlash it decided against it.

Before you ask the source, I have seen the internal staff memo on this like I had right from the beginning - so for the source all I can say is BOYA.

This is the last post from me as some of the disgusting comments and sarcasm doesn't make it a welcome place to be. Had lots more info I could share which would've benefited a lot of people on here but the smug attitude of some makes it pointless. Not putting up with rubbish from some narrow minded people on here.
