Confirmed? Hasn't happened yet, the predicted date is still in the future.

Try ringing the premium desk and see if you get the same response I did and another poster did, its happening.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Actually I beg to differ.
In these days of status matches and the ability to earn miles with other airlines on locally-available CC like Amex, I would say that it's far from a lock-in program.

For those who do alot of domestic travel I'm hearing alot of good things about the Velocity program.
Well credit cards are mostly direct earn, if you want QFF you really can't go to any other airline with your CC points. I am yet to have a personal CC but it is looking less likely that will be a QFF one. Virgin needs to get their act together on partner redemptions as that silver card sitting next to my silver QFF one in my wallet is starting to look shinier.

That does annoy me though as I do love Qantas....it's just they seem to want to make it harder and harder to get somewhere with QFF.

If you go back through the thread you'll see similar assertions about the last two times. It's confirmed when it happens...

747800 - thank you for your continued persistence with this thread and the changes.

your advance warning was extremely useful to those of us who booked ASAs and have saved a lot of money by avoiding call centre booking fees.

DO NOT post a copy of the staff memo. you should not have to be subjected to an investigation following the leak of a confidential internal memo.

we were told ASAs are here to stay. we weren't told that they would now only be subject to a hefty booking fee. which is in addition to the already increased cash component.

qantas, via red roo, officially 'liked' a post in another thread were jetstar passengers were described as 'idiots' for not understanding the program. if this news is true I guess we are treated pretty much the same. just idiots who will put up with anything. (the 'like' was only withdrawn, days later, after an informal complaint).

there is NO DOUBT that when we were told by qf that ASAs are 'here to stay' that this was in reference to 'cheap ASAs'... no one in their wildest dreams would think it was referring to ASAs at 1 million points.

if qf wants to limit the use of 'cheap' ASAs then by all means allow call centre bookings... but waive the fee!

QF has finalised their decision on the ASA situation. From tomorrow 26th June when the new search engine is fully functional ASAs that contain the same inventory as classic awards being P, U, Z, X will NOT be available on Qantas.com - you will still be able to book these as ASAs but only through the call centre - you need to specify. QF did in fact want to remove the ASA completely but thanks to this thread saw the backlash it decided against it.

Before you ask the source, I have seen the internal staff memo on this like I had right from the beginning - so for the source all I can say is BOYA.

This is the last post from me as some of the disgusting comments and sarcasm doesn't make it a welcome place to be. Had lots more info I could share which would've benefited a lot of people on here but the smug attitude of some makes it pointless. Not putting up with rubbish from some narrow minded people on here.
Thankyou for the information, I have always posted "where there's smoke there's fire" and do understand IT and how some changes can be delayed for many and varied reasons.

I do hope you stick around.
I admire your resilience in the face of what I agree has been some poor behaviour towards you. I do hope you stick around, even if you don't share anything else for a little while. ...
Fully agree ...

So it seems the the ASA Apocalypse didn't come to pass. Life goes on, and the world continues to turn. Let's hope the OP and his supporters don't come back with a third date, or else this thread will read something like QF removing ASAs [Definitely 30 June [Was 18 May, before that 10 April].

Can I suggest that next time somebody gets information like this, a few less people (a few hundred less?) run around screaming "The sky is falling!" and a few more just chill and reflect that this has been yet another rumour gone off the rails, and one which makes AFF look like a bunch gossiping bunch of fishwives!

Anybody who backed this rumour in any way, regardless of who they were, has lost credibility. Doubly so for people who pretended to have 'inside knowledge' but didn't reveal all, just to play a bit of an 'ego game' and cover themselves so that if ASAs went or ASAs stayed they could in either event pretend they knew.
I wonder what those who made posts like this might consider tomorrow? Sometimes there's simply no need for such a post.

At least the heads up has given us time to take advantage of the changes before they happen, even if said happening has been delayed, which in itself is an advantage. I echo the thanks for the heads up, nothing lost, much gained.

Well Red Roo has read the thread and seen the latest post about the imminent changes to ASAs so no doubt we'll read the official response soonest.

Wow, this thread seems to be getting a bit personal now.... I'm sure things will work out for the best and Qantas will continue to love their Frequent Flyers! We will all see tomorrow anyway.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Wait a second, a multi-million dollar company did a partial back flip on obviously a strategic decision by not scrapping the decision altogether, but simply keeping moving the date back to arbitrary dates simply because of the power of a single thread where the main type of reply was "yeah right, like that'll ever happen". I won't pretend to know the inner mind of QF, but something tells me that if they are about to introduce a change (enhancement) which they know will annoy people, something tells me that they are already ready for the backlash, and one little internet thread is hardly going to change their mind.

The delivery date for IT projects always comes with a great deal of risk about meeting those dates. Project managers that have missed a deadline can be quite creative in how they explain away the delay....

Also, let's say this thread did cause a change to what was going to happen, then that change will need to be worked through - hence a delay.

Why doesn't Red Roo get on this thread and confirm and explain it... So quick to get on with all the good news and invites...

As I posted above Red Roo has read the thread and probably has to check with the appropriate people to generate a complete response.

I've worked on numerous IT projects, so I'm well aware about slippage, I'm also well aware of how delays can be explained.
That said, I am also very skeptical when it comes to some of the explanations given for IT project slippage.

Also the whole tone of this thread has been based on rumours and speculation, with no one person willing to actually give any definitive proof, but at the same time getting very offended that we don't have rumour and speculation on face value.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

From a business perspective I can see why QF would want to increase the difference in points/cash needed between Classic Awards and ASAs. The logical way to do this is get rid of ASAs at classic points level, or make them harder to get.

The trade-off is a lot of annoyed frequent flyers because of yet another devaluation of points.

FWIW - I haven't booked a classic award since ASAs came in because the SCs are so valuable in earning & maintaining status, and the points are like cash back on the extra points / cash required for an ASA c.f. a classic award.

You think Red Roo is the company spokesman and has all the answers at their fingertips?

They are just the social media team, who have to get approval for what they write/say and find out the actual information. Give them time.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Perhaps a number of AFF's could call everyday to ask about ASA to tie up the lines... Then we will see how long before they bring back the option of booking an ASA online. ;)

Perhaps?

I've got one ASA I might need to change and one, actually 2 one ways, I'm very likely to book. The one I might change took me about 3 or 4 1 hour plus sessions of searches and options to book. So changing it will take at least 2 phone calls for searches plus a call to book. There's 2 or so hours of phone time for $50.

The 2 one ways, I'd imagine will require 4 hours to finally book. Will they make money on call centre staff at $12.50 an hour?

TheInsider beat me to it.

Red Roo will respond when possible I am sure. Let's be glad that we have the opportunity to ask Red Roo to provide a response just to us :)

I will soon have to book a couple to Europe as well so we'll see how long those will take, I'm a patient man :D

We are always looking at ways to improve the member experience. As recently as 2 weeks ago we hosted many of the AFF members at Rockpool where we got some great ideas. We can confirm that Any Seat Awards are here to stay and many members enjoy the flexibility of being able to purchase any fare using points.
When there is any news we will do our best to make sure that AFF are among the first to know.

"Always looking to improve the member experience"?? Seems a dumb thing to say on this topic if the changes foreshadowed are going to occur... Or is 'improve" going to get the same treatment in terms of mangling that "enhancement" has???

If What 747800Intercon says is true that they will make it harder and gouge back points at the same time, then this was a fairly useless update... If it isn't true seems more retraining at the platinum desk or whatever is required... Good to know we will be the first to know though...
