re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I am a little confused about all this talk of it taking longer now. Am I missing something. Don't we all search when the classic awards are available and then search again with those dates in hand for the JASA to match? So wouldn't it take almost the same amount of time? Find the classic award then call to book?
Maybe I have completely missed something there.
I hate doing phone bookings because I just never quite trust that I am getting what I asked for and once its arrived often its too late (probably more to do with past experience ordering take away than flights but still).
Anything thats taken away from being bookable online is a pain. I book/buy/pay for everything online these days. If it requires a phone call I wont bother so I am not saying the change isn't an issue ...

My monies on that ASAs will be dead in the water. From tomorrow it will be either a classic award OR cash ticket (or cash ticket plus points). The latter option being enchanced as the the NewASA ;)

Cash plus points options through the regular booking engine could be a possible outcome. Which is kinda what ASAs were meant to be in the first place.

The death of "cheap" ASAs - maybe, but hopefully not.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Are you referring to the removal of ASAs entirely?
No - the post refers to them being no longer offered on the website. (but does offer 'guess' they won't be available at all). I reproduce that post here:
With the launch of the new website set for 08 April QF will no longer offer Any Seat Awards - it will simply being the points+pay option. The new site will offer commercial seats and award seats on the same search page. So I guess this is the end of cheap FASA/JASA which share the same revenue class as the classic awards. It was good while it lasted.

This thread and the Labor leadership debacle have a lot in common.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

This is the last post from me as some of the disgusting comments and sarcasm doesn't make it a welcome place to be. Had lots more info I could share which would've benefited a lot of people on here but the smug attitude of some makes it pointless. Not putting up with rubbish from some narrow minded people on here.

I thought those that jumped up and down moved on to another frequent flyer website... so you should definitely stay and share with us :)

Why am I thinking it may be something to do with Qantas Cash?

It's about time, I'd like to start earning points on my purchases, finally!

So the current process is scour the website for ASA at classic rates and book.

The new process will be to scour the website for classic awards and then call to book as an ASA.

This is the sky falling?

To be honest I thought similarly. Yes, I have to pay $30 for help with my booking over the phone, but it's only $30. If I can still get the JASA I want, then $30 isn't too bad. It's when they increase that fee that they really screw up in my eyes.

That or I may aim for P1 to avoid the assistance fee :p

It's also about convenience though. I personally quite like searching for ASA's in my own time, messing around with dates and routes etc. If I have to make a phone call now to find the ASA fares (if I am understanding this correctly) I will be put off and I am sure others will too.

I really don't understand the need to remove ASA's from the website. If they want the extra $30 revenue - add it to the cash price that goes along with an award booking.

I still don't see the reason for a briefing if this is the only change.

Currently unclear, but the $30 extra revenue would easily be chewed up by the person who helps you on the phone. In fact they would probably be worse off...

The difference may be a lot of people don't realise that it can be done via the phone, hence book a newASA or a classic award instead.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

If ASA's will be required to be booked via the call centre I will be asking the fee to be waived considering it can't be done online. Sounds fair right?

Yes, the price has crept up, but they are still good value (classic price + $x for SCs and points, where x is small is still good value)

Assuming you can book exactly the same ticket for exactly the same price, just only via the call centre, I agree that would be silly... Things should always be cheaper for both parties online because the cost to service is so much lower online.

However, I would be surprised if that was the whole story.

Also, with things like this it is worth remembering that highly engaged FFs (e.g. AFF) are a tiny proportion of all Qantas Frequent Flyer members, and even the pool of elite members.

And my observations in a limited selection of routes has been that x = $100-$200 between both current classic and old ASA, and new ASA. By comparison trying to crawl in another $50 via phone bookings seems strange given the potential costs.

The point about engaged QFF members being a small number also makes delays due to this thread implausible.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Perhaps a number of AFF's could call everyday to ask about ASA to tie up the lines... Then we will see how long before they bring back the option of booking an ASA online. ;)
Careful, that might backfire into getting rid of them completely...

The same day mistake guarantee should be used if they stuff up the booking.

Errr no : The policy only applies to bookings made at qantas.com.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I am speaking now with the premium desk and there is a change coming effective from tomorrow

There will be no more ASA or Classic Awards

1) There will be only one button which will be your search where you will be given the option of either a Paid fare or how many points will be required

2) You can click on a secondary box which will search for award flights only

If you want a combined paid come reward flight then you will need to call the centre

BUT for normal fares or the points option you do NOT need to cal them

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

If I made a phone booking and it was clear they made a mistake, not me, I wouldn't be accepting any fees...

Essentially offering points+pay as the first port of call, then if you want a classic you have to go through a second process...

thanks for the information, i am sure more will become clear in the coming hours....

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Ansett's post begs the obvious question - will those flights earn SCs?
