re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I'm a bit confused by all the arguing in this thread.

In summary:
QF have a new booking engine which basically merges ASA and points plus pay, and making all types of award seats visible at ones.

EXCEPT - "cheap" JASAs using U class availability are now only by phone. With a rumour of deletion in three months (or so).

That being the case, i guess it's a three month wait and see re: availability. I am disappointed if true, and I also feel that they should be visible online if available - why would I want to waste my time and a call centre staffers time to have to ring about JASA availability? I like the flexibility to use my hard earned points on a flexible J fare. I dislike paying through the nose for it, or having it highly inconvenient to do so. Sure, better than not available at all, but far from a "win" from a consumer viewpoint.

I'm not weighing in on the who knew what when discussion (there's about 4 versions going it seems.....)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The way I see it is:
1. The mods were invited to a 4pm briefing on the change of the website
2. A condition of this invite is they were gagged until 6am from discussing it
3. If a mod took advantage of what was gleaned at that briefing then it could be considered a perk. (so what)
4. There was ample other information in this thread for members to form their own opinion, and book ASA's should then consider so.
5. I think the mods do a tremendous job
6. Nothing more to see here people, move on please :)

For those who have used xASA:

Will you be reassessing which FF program you credit your flying/credit card points from now?

ABSOLUTELY! Researching both right now...

When I cancel my 4 x QF direct earn CC, I will certainly let the banks & Amex know the reason.

Any cheap ASA.. including Y and F.

I think QF are going to regret this. I personally use the JASA to keep my status up so I can enjoy flying QF and its partners and the privileges that status gives. If I cannot keep my status up, I won't go out if my way to fly QF Will just look for the cheapest fares. The JASA's were my reward for spending many hours in Y on work china trips and PER eastern seaboard work trips.

Will AA, CX other Oneworld airline status match?

'Perk'. Is that what you call it?

I haven't heard of such things put that way since I read 'Blue Sky Mines' by Pierpont about goings-on in the 1980s.

"Yes, M'lud, I did all those things, after getting the information, but I believe the term is 'perk' and therefore I'm blameless. Nothing to see here M'lud, move along, your Honour.".

QF wishes.

I wonder what QF's reaction to people exercising of 'perks' as you call it? "Nothing to see here people, move on please."

I haven't managed to read every post on he thread
But the gist seems to be that the only person not affected by his change is Boss Reggie :-)

Seriously though I am wondering if it's time to store my ( non flying ) points with he CC partner for the next few months.
And if the rumours are true, start looking at star alliance and VA. ?
I have enjoyed being a loyal QF FF. but loyalty is a two edged sword.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

OK it seems the points redemptions for all domestic and international JASAs have more than doubled. The message is clear - points are only to be used for discount economy status earns or no status earns at all. Status runs and achieving/retaining status through points redemptions is no longer realistic.
And in my opinion I think that is the way it should be regardless of what people think.

When Qantas introduced Any Seat awards they did not earn SCs and FF points. Then when they started earning SCs and FF points people thought it was too good to be true. So what do you do in that situation? Abuse the hell out of it and hope that no one notices. And gloat about it by posting on a FF forum as well.

So now it becomes a little more expensive to earn status. A few people won't bother. I still have to commute....

ABSOLUTELY! Researching both right now...

I'm entirely sure that they won't care, they certainly didn't when everyone cancelled their Platinum Charge Cards.

I think QF are going to regret this. I personally use the JASA to keep my status up so I can enjoy flying QF and its partners and the privileges that status gives. If I cannot keep my status up, I won't go out if my way to fly QF Will just look for the cheapest fares. I don't think they're going to regret it. They're closing something that a very small percentage of the general public use. Those booking on the cheapest fares tend not to add much to the bottom line anyway, so for them they'd see it as a win by losing "another person who gained status via ASAs".

Exactly! The tie-ins and 'loyalty' that were the selling points for the program may take a huge dive as a result....

I'd be surprised if this was the case. The reality is until people vote with their feet, they'll continue to just be the naysayers "I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that" and still go on with the status quo.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Yes I have provided feedback. I am searching the net for as many qantas email addresses I can personally email.

Quite a few people here have e-mail and phone numbers of some senior Qantas execs. Only gotta ask ...

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Does anyone seriously think the call centre people are willing to check dozens of date and even destination combinations for us when we call them to book a JASA ?
Coz that's what I usually do when I book it online...
