re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Wish I was getting them every year. No love for will2rob from Qantas yet :-(

17 years and I've just received my third offer - all three have been in the past 12 months. I've used two of them......

First offer - stock standard offer & I used it via JASA last year. BTW, I'd never heard or used ASA until I joined AFF:D

Second offer - didn't use it.

Third offer - received last week. It's the Flex or above DSC offer.......have taken to it like duck to water. Booked 10 flights, all J, all paid and all flights required for work purposes - have gone from 250SC to 1090SC in two weeks:D

When the DSC post I'll break the 14,000 SC threshold.......LTG, finally:cool: FWIW - DSC are responsible for around 1,200 out of the 14,000 or around 9%.

I never fly DOM J with cash however, time is getting precious and with a young family I can't be bothered flying all over OZ or Asia or LOTFAP to maximise the SC. The cost of the 10 sectors is reasonable as the cheaper J fares are priced pretty well these days.

DSC (for me) have been a very recent initiative and I'm happy to receive. I don't really care if it's utilised via cash/JASA/MASA - I see the value in status as we fly as a family OS at least once or twice a year and the benefits of WP are massive.

At the end of the day - I'd rather reserve my points for family holidays sitting in F or J seats that have been purchased with points........over the past 17 years all of these have been classic and I don't see this changing.

ASA are great for those that can use them or find them. Trying to get 4 seats in F or J at a low priced ASA is just about impossible. Classic awards have served us well and will continue to do so in the future.

YMMV

Jessica, are you really disappointed?

I am also disappointed my weekly airfares have been increasing the past couple of years. Yes, I know there is nothing I can do about it but just thought you may you want to know about my disappointment.

Irrelevant you say? I am sorry for the interruption....
I am disappointed. And I have explained such to QF. At least I have taken some action unlike some on here who are quick to criticise but then don't follow through.

JohnK, your posts are certainly not interruptions.

As a result of the changes to ASA I have just booked two J returns on SQ which would have gone to QF. I have complained and told QF of my disappointment and have taken action by voting with my Feet.

I have a feeling more and more will be doing the same

Cant wait for VA to do another status match- Maybe if we can get enough people to persuade VA they will match us?! :D

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

<snip>

I am now in almost no doubt, following that conversation, that to quote Tony Abbott, in three months time marginal ASAs will be "dead, buried and cremated"

But, but, but .... Red Roo (aka Qantas mouthpiece) and I think even Alan Joyce (quizzed on the Dubai junket - but I haven't gone back to check) have said

"ASAs are here to stay"
didn't he/she/it ???

We given language which left wriggle room for changes early on in this thread, but the abolition was completely ruled out, wasn't it?

Red Roo I'm sure will chime back in to re-assure us again.
ASAs are here to stay
.

Going UA in F on my next TPAC. SFO arrival adds to the attraction.

They retain ASAs at umpteen million points and they've kept their commitment yet made them uneconomic for most members.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Here it is from Red Roo's post #83 in this thread,.

We are always looking at ways to improve the member experience. As recently as 2 weeks ago we hosted many of the AFF members at Rockpool where we got some great ideas. We can confirm that Any Seat Awards are here to stay and many members enjoy the flexibility of being able to purchase any fare using points.
When there is any news we will do our best to make sure that AFF are among the first to know.

(my bolding)

So that's it. No chance at all that ASAs will be abolished (of course, the concept of 'marginal' wasn't quite there at the time. Orwellian language use, anyone?

Everyone relax.

I trust I will earn a coveted Red Roo 'like' for this post.

I love how people go out of their way to book QF. One thing I've learnt living in Europe is you book the carrier that suits best for the journey and if it happens to be your mainstay then great, if not, no big deal. It is about time people started to open their other eye and take a look at what else is out there......

Yes I'm wondering if that question was posed to the VA rep last night.

Personally I'm very disappointed on the move Qantas "appears" to be making. August was the start of my QFF year and this was going to be the first year for me to hit Gold and maybe even WP. If they do get rid of MASA's (still getting used to that new term) then my loyalty to Qantas will be heavily diluted. At the moment I will just wait & see what transpires.

ASA's are staying. Just not the marginal ones..and "non-marginal" ASAs have always been around. So where is the falsehood?

Indeed they probably will stay, however marginal ASAs will go. No lies there in what Red Roo said, just different interpretations by people.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Yep now it just costs 2 million for a return JASA from Aus to LHR...

As far as I am concerned it is all just weasel words from Red Roo and Alan Joyce. They have forever broken trust with their customers as far as I am concerned.

Falsehood?/ Falsehood?? Who mentioned anything about a falsehood??

Someone else said that 'marginal' ASAs would be gone and I was simply re-iterating what Red Roo had said about ASAs staying. Staying y'hear?

...

The Mayor has said "This kids playground will STAY for good." Council then removes the play equipment, soft landing stuff etc, replacing it all with grass. The sign now says "Marginal children's playground." and indeed there is lawn where kids can play.

Has the Mayor committed a 'falsehood' so we complain and hopefully move to another candidate? Or do we all just continue to use the 'marginal kids playground' and re-elect the Mayor?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

?
Or do we all just continue to use the 'marginal kids playground' and re-elect the Mayor?

Well that's the question. If the removal of marginal ASAs is what will drive you to another airline then so be it. Obviously QF who are privy to the numbers, have considered that this won't effect their bottom line. In fact they probably see the move as improving it, that's what most private companies are driven by.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

But where has QF said that marginal ASAs will be abolished altogether?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Correct. When I was talking to Miss Qantas today, and mentioned marginal ASAs, she immediately referred to them as JASAs. She was clear that ASAs at umpteen million points would stay. No such commitment to JASAs. As per my previous post, I was left with no doubt that the intention is to phase out JASAs. I am guessing they are banking that most of the people who would use JASAs will grumble but continue flying with Qantas having gained status.

But where has QF said that marginal ASAs will be abolished altogether?

They haven't. But to book them you know have to do so through the call centre for the next three months. After that..........

They haven't AFAIK ...

As part of the information hookup last week, we were advised that marginal any seat awards were being retained currently but their ongoing future was subject to review.
