Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Looks like the next round of panic buying has been the toy aisle at kmart; no chalk or any other "keep them busy" items.

An Adelaide man has reportedly hoarded more than 5400 toilet rolls after panic buying left supermarket shelves stripped.
An anonymous grocer told 9 News Adelaide they had been approached by the man, who has allegedly been contacting independent stores about his stash after being banned from online selling.

They should make him give it to charity - what an asshole

Looks like Toilet Paper Wars may be almost over, or at least near me.

At my local Woolies at 10am this morning not only was the aisle overflowing onto the floor as the shelves with toilet paper, as well as paper towels, there was not one other person in the aisle buying it when I was. Plus even a choice of brands!

The rest of the supermarket was quiet but with people in most aisles. So the toilet paper aisle was the least busy are in the whole supermarket! I did note though that most trollies did not have toilet paper in them which was quite the opposite of most of my other recent shops.

Similar to my experience yesterday, except there was twice as much TP as your photo (and there were no special price stickers :( )

Not too bad on my Coles shop in Lonnie today.A fair bit of TP and even 5 varieties of spaghetti.Must have been expecting a run on tissues as 2 aisles of them.
Did get a few looks as I was wearing a mask but nobody else was.
The shop is to last me the next 2 weeks.I have though ordered fruit, veggies, meat and salmon from the Harvest Market online to be delivered Saturday.

You would be looked at because people would assume you had coronavirus and maybe shouldn't have been out shopping!

although there were some coughing in the store I wasn't one of them.1 women really looked unwell and coughing.Probably COPD from tobacco but if I saw her coming I went to a different aisle.
Yes I am a wimp.

Anyone registered with Coles for priority home delivery? What the hell is the National Disability Insurance agency? I guess I will keep mum in law with Woolies as even Im struggling a bit with registering her for Coles.

If you were shopping in Melbourne CBD, you would be merely one of very many walking around with a face mask and I doubt anyone would react whatsoever.

Even before Covid raised it's head it was not uncommon. But then again we have some 60-80K international students in Melbourne and they have brought the custom with them from their homelands.

Masks were not uncommon even before the bushfires (gee that seems like years ago now )

Special situation for you as (1) in Tassie (2) Caucasian (3) Nervousness in general in the last 3 weeks

The NDIA administers the NDIS.

Yet still, the price I'm seeing there is wowsers! I guess TP costs more in Aus than here....

I take advantage of the healthcare workers community hour at 7-8am Tues and Thurs at Coles and Woolworths . At 7am today, I went to my local Coles to do my Easter shopping and the shelves had all the items including pasta that had been in short supply recently. I skipped the TP aisle which was overflowing. I stocked up on liquid soap (only 2 containers) as this is very hard to get at other times. It was a good time to shop as they are restricting the number of shoppers in the store. ...I hope to not need to shop for at least 2 weeks as I much prefer to sleep at 7am....

Local Coles is looking much better, except for pasta, hand soap and disinfectant. Everything else is back to normal.

Our locals are 100% back to normal now, infact they are empty of people really really quiet.

I guess because who really wants to be in a filthy supermarket if you can avoid it :)
(And because so many people panic bought and are now sitting on a months worth of food!)

I did the shopping run today, stock levels seemed normal but the Supermarkets and the fruit shop were pretty busy compared to last week.
One in 5 not bothered , but most folks using common sense with distance.
Fruit shop is small with no limit on patronage, so quite crowded with distancing compromised.
Next week I will take a mask...

Keep in mind it is the week pre-Easter - second busiest time of the year as people stock up for the public hols. Its probs just that.

Yep, I've been heeding the warnng that Easter Thursday and Saturday are big shopping days and getting in ahead. I suspect others too.

I hope that they are only buying for their household needs to cover the next week or so. No big Easter celebrations and get-togethers this year. Many supermarkets will only be closed for one day over Easter anyway, with some trading throughout, but on reduced hours.
