Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

FWIW I was in WW this morn and a Chinese couple loaded up their trolley with every tube of hand sanitizer on the shelves - staff were scurrying around asking each other if there is a limit on purchases - lots of shoulder shrugging going on but I would expect WW will implement a purchase limit policy very quickly
Theres money to be made, people are selling this at eye watering rates online (ebay, Gumtree ect)

I have not seen the report, but is that people on board the ship claimed to have developed symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections, or of actual coronavius?

I did see one report stating that 10 people who had coronavirus had been transferred to Japanese Hospitals for treatment.

61 actual coronavirus cases. 10 transferred first, then another 10 yesterday, now another 41 set to go today (to hospitals in five different prefectures).

Of today's 41, 21 are Japanese, 8 American, 5 Australian, 5 Canadian... 35 aged 60 or older.

One thing I'm not clear on when I see these "corona-virus" reports is whether they have gone as far as confirming 2019nCov.

If I understand it properly, "corona-virus" of one type or another is circulating through the population every day throughout the world. It appears to be now a generic term that is being floated around in the media without qualifying if the quick form testing being done is actually confirming this specific variety of corona-virus. I would expect on any "average" cruise there would be a number of passengers carrying a corona-virus.

Maybe someone with more medical knowledge can update or correct me.

Chinese factories are anticipating official instruction from Govt that factories cannot re-open on Mon 10th but rather plan to open Mon 17th

Yes we have all been exposed to corana-virus of one type or another already many times.

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in human

Testing positive for coronavirus - now 61 positive.

..Makes you wonder if there were ever proper contingency plans for “Isolation Centres”. Certainly doesn’t seem to have been in any Master Plan.

There is a plan, because I looked up the response to that survey of 195 nations.

When chips were down, the govt has pretty quickly found this second site. Good going in my book.

I’ve since edited my earlier post (probably while you were still typing). Although it does seem to be an initiative of the NT Government, who suggested it to the Feds.

When the ABC quickly showed an aerial of the mining camp, I didn't see a security fence around it? Could be wrong.

IF there isn't, wonder how they will stop nutter runaways or visitors. 🤔

Original total capacity of 3,500. But probably not that many can be housed if small family groups or singles housed separately/isolated from each other.

Edit: Based on my interpretation, rightly or wrongly. Certainly a good outcome though, especially if it was built to accommodate 3,500 people, as reported.

I don't know what flight this is but some are saying taken on an US evacuation flight.Scary though could be a set up.

Wow. Looks like a sci fi movie set. But the scary thing is that it may actually be legit.
