Wow. Looks like a sci fi movie set. But the scary thing is that it may actually be legit.

Why is that scary? Looks like the kind of PPE I'd expect (at least from the Americans) - doesn't seem too bad, even if it makes them look like the Darth Vader from Back to the Future!

Perhaps the Prof should stick to his alleged area of expertise in FOREX if he can't even recognise in the video its an US plane and US staff/accents and nothing to do with how china treats people.

While it looks a little bizarre I totally understand the defence forces not wanting to take any chances whatsoever of the virus getting into the troop population.

Even Scotty from marketing & Co organised all the risks to be taken by contractors for the AU retrieval. QF plane and staff + 2 x contract planes to CI, contractors running the detention centre.

Ah yes - my experience with many Chinese is great unhappiness if the diet is continuously Western. You would have thought someone would have thought of that.....

Might also be that with only a couple of days to set the place up, they didn't have time to generate a comprehensive menu, or a more Chinese style menu...

But some people there would likely complain no matter what was served and media tend to air the more extreme rather than the non-controversial responses. Sort of like the pax interviews after any airline based incident where the most shrill responses are what is reported.

A good idea to put the second flight from china in Darwin.Would be terrible if those on the first flight were all well but someone from the second flight came down with the virus.Only way would be to keep the 2 groups totally separate which would lead to more headlines.Hopefully those who were transferred via NZ were kept separate.

If anyone thought our quarantine was over reacting.

One that I missed earlier on Friday 7 February was 'WUH coronavirus rescue flight - to be trendy let's add the USA-style #2' - that took off from SYD (B744 VH-OEE) at 1224 hours, having been scheduled for pushback at 1140. HKG arrival should be 1751, nine minutes early.

There is meant to be a limit on "bulk sales", which is set at 6 boxes of a single line. It doesn't appear to have that limit set in the registers as other item limits do (or are meant to) and many staff don't seem to know about the limits if it isn't posted on a ticket.
ie, a general policy limit for max sales per product exists, but nothing about it has prevented large sales of sausages, soft drink, bottled water, bread, milk etc to community group BBQs, restaurants, coffee shops and fast food/chicken/fish shops.

Yes, that makes sense. You want to give the first group every chance to go home when their two weeks are up. The new site might make separation easier for later arrivals.

When the ABC quickly showed an aerial of the mining camp, I didn't see a security fence around it? Could be wrong.

IF there isn't, wonder how they will stop nutter runaways or visitors.

Original total capacity of 3,500. But probably not that many can be housed if small family groups or singles housed separately/isolated from each other.

From google street view it appears to have a high fence around the perimeter.

Sadly the world will recognise his bravery but his homeland won’t. I heard he died of a different strain of coronavirus. Conspiracy theory abounds.

If you had a SYD-PVG(QF) - LHR (BA) award itinerary booked through Qantas, could you be fairly safe, paradoxically, even though you are flying through China? ‘Safe’ in the sense of not having a flight cancelled and then being told: “too bad, no award space available” which could really mess up a planned trip.

I’m thinking:

SYD-PVG , Qantas flight booked through Qantas, surely they would have to take responsibility for re-routing.

PVG-LHR, EC261 would apply and BA must offer an alternative routing.

Does this make any sense? I imagine award space to/from China is going to be easy to book for later in the year.

and depending on the deal, if any, the UK makes with the EU, EC261 won't apply to any flight departing LHR by the end of the year.

Other than the sad fact this fellow has passed away the big issue I have about his tale was he was lying sick in hospital for 10 days before he got tested.... extrapolate that out for how many might have it and probably have also died. Given he's a doctor he probably got fast tracked in the system...
