Costco - Products, Prices and Deals

The more I see these specials, the less reason I have to get a membership again. Coles/Woolies are doing $8 chickens 'everyday' now.
I am not promoting Costo just bringing awareness - check the weight of these Costco chooks - 1.4kg for $7 - then go compare to WW or Coles.
Petrol is below 98cpl in many places (as of yesterday I saw some around 97c and it's 93c with discount on Kings Way in Melbourne this morning, which is an expensive station).
Bear in mind Costco set their prices for a weekly cycle - none of this up 20c/ltr on Thu/Fri and down 20c/ltr Mon business.
I'm always cooking for one, so it means lots of small shops.
Then apart from say a chook and one of the salads that you eat over 2 nights then you are buggered at Costco - packaging is definitely designed for families or entertaining.

Since Costco Moorabbin opened I buy diesel there every time I need to fill up - it's kinda my little protest at the pricing structure the majors implement - but it's basically on my doorstep so no biggie to visit - I bought a 12pack of deodorant there few weeks back but I think that is only purchase I have made. I posted pics of the Samsonite Movelite 2pc combo that was very competitively priced and at least one AFFer took advantage - I went back to get a set myself but sold out - no luggage at all in store Sun morn.

TVs look very competitively priced and they do have the Fuji Xerox pc paper at $14.87/box as a standard item. There are some good deals there no doubt but will not suit all.

There trays of 18mid loin lamb chops at $17.99/kg are still the best loin lamb chops I have ever seen - almost totally denuded they look excellent.

I don't like the RSPCA chooks at Coles one bit, and the Lilydale ones just aren't browned on the skin enough. Loved the Costco one we purchased.

Apologies for going off topic, whilst on the topic of Chooks, the Free Range Chooks at Woolies are not up to scratch either, with a lack of stuffing which dries the product out much faster.

Back on topic :)

Oh don't take it the wrong way. I know you're just doing a community service:)

The Chickens at Coles are the 'family' ones that were $12 or originally. I've not paid any attention to the weight though.

I'm just commenting that the savings are actually pretty small overall. So many people I have heard say 'ZOMG IT'S SO CHEAP!!?!?!!' but with the exception of a very small number of items, i'm yet to be wowed (at least for long-life/non-perishable items that I would buy and stockpile).

They do have a great range of stuff that's just not available in Coles/Woolies/Aldi/IGA etc though. If only having a big family saved cash ;)

You definitely have to go in clear-headed and check your Woolies/Coles prices as you go. Some stuff is cheaper, a lot is definitely not (and you have to contend with massive packages). We tend to stick to a handful of items that we would buy anyway that work out cheaper. Pus they have some good wine deals occasionally (or they used to, not so much over the last 12 months).

I know what you mean. I am a Costco member with 3 kids but probably don't save any money shopping there due to the extraneous spend on random items I wasn't planning on buying. However I do love the bagels :)

Agreed. I used to fill my freezer with the blueberry bagels when I initially had a membership (the week they opened in AU). They are great for breakfast!

After my once a week aqua aerobics class where the water and air temps feel like 65C, I'm really overheated. I and a Costco member, go to the shop 150 mtrs away into the cool aircon, and eat the nice tastings on offer - there was Easter eggs last week - chocolate is the best, and buy a few things.

Interesting, I prefer the Coles chooks to Costco by miles. The marinade Costco uses makes the chicken look undercooked...

Costco looks undercooked? Goodness, the opposite here in Adelaide. Coles chooks look like they have been blanched!

That's rather disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.
