I was doing really good during the Chrissy period but have fallen off the treadmill... again.

Even my Garmin Vivofit died (broken pixels on the screen), so sent that back this week and havent replaced it yet. Have to get something as the Red Line of Laziness really does work for me, to get me out of my chair every hour.

Good luck, Benjy! Sounds great.

Denali, are you able to set hourly reminders on your phone to stand up and have a walk around? I know it's so easy to stay in the couch and be lazy (I know, I use to do it!) but you'll feel so good and seeing the kgs drop off after a week of exercise :)

Yes I can set alarms but its easy to ignore my phone, which is why I like the Vivofit original and 3, because the red line will not go away unless you walk. Its the Red Line of Laziness shame....

I just ordered the Vivofit 4 so hope to get it by Monday.

The week before last I managed >120k steps. I think I may have overdone it as last week I fell back to just 50k. So far this week, even less.:(

Love this thread!

Does anyone here ever move about the plane much when they fly? I remember vividly one year, (VA1 SYD-LAX in Y) - we were about halfway across and I could feel my toes getting fatter by the minute. Eventually - they looked like little sausages, so I had to crawl down to the rear galley and seek help from the cabin crew. They gave me fluids and told me to walk up and down as much as I could. I'm only 62kgs, so not exactly a goliath, but I do have acute arthritis which flares when I fly.

Even when I'm in J (rare) I now ensure to get out of my seat every hour and do a lap or two around the plane.

After my last set of multiple long/medium hauls, Im a big believer in compression socks. I even wear them for Syd-Perth, as they make such a difference to me.

Im one of those people that can sit/lie/sleep for the entire flight, but at work if I dont stand every hour or so, my back and legs start to ache these days.

I am very interested in those Denail - should I seek the stocking versions or do you think socks are superior?

I use custom Jobst ones which are toeless. Thanks to an old injury I have an ankle that swells easily. I can do SYD - MEL without them but that’s it. Since doing more flights in J I’ve certainly noticed the additional benefit of not sitting long haul.

I have all the tracking stuff on my phone & watch. Never look at it unless I'm doing a bit of serious hiking when I'm overseas - just to see how far I've gone.

I'm on the last bit of the slippery slope towards 70; detested sport as a kid and still do; BMI 24, run 5km on the beach every two days, followed by a slop in the surf; hit the gym alternate days for 1-1.25h, including 20 mins/4200 metres on the rowing machine just to turn the ticker on. Take no medication whatsoever.

I never watch TV. (Maybe I should repeat that..., repeat that..., repeat that...).

Hmmm, there's something else.... Oh, I know - come to think of it: also don't mind a bit of wine and food in (and out of) 1A.

It's easy - what's everyone's problem o_O:rolleyes::p:D.

Got my new sports tracker this week and day one, was exhausted having to get up every hour and move around. The Red Line of Laziness is such a big help for me. It really forces me to get out of my chair and move.

Now to start back with morning walks as I used Chrissy and the heat as an excuse to do nothing (although lots of walking on KI).

I have made a return to the pool. Primarily to rehab a knee injury so very gentle at the moment but keen to get it back to being my primary exercise method.

In the midst of an exercise "frenzy" , I thought I would revive this thread to see how everyone is travelling.
I have been office bound for weeks and decided enough is enough.
3k last night 6k this arvo, easy enough but wondering if and when stuff will start to hurt.
I hope to settle into about 20k a week for a while and see how the body holds up.
How is everyone else doing ?

I did lots of walking on the holiday I mentioned above but haven't been doing much since. Even doing a 2km walk is hard for me at the moment.

When travelling and more particularly when on a cruise I easily do 10,000+ per day.
When I’m at work I only do about 3500 so need to go out again in the evening to build up the steps.

Being a bit slack at the moment and only doing about 8,000 per day.

Well I did my epic Himalayan trek in October and averaged over 20k steps a day in preparation. I have a Garmin Forerunner with GPS capacity, so know it’s an accurate measure of the work I did.

The 10 day trek included 3000 steps in one day which involved a 2000 mtr elevation increase, with the following day being a 7 hour trek all over 3000 mtr. It was the toughest thing I’ve done, and I’ve run many marathons. Still, I’m seriously considering a more epic Himalayan trek next, maybe to Upper Mustang.

The downside is that since October I’ve done little other than walking the dog. Time to get serious.

I hope everyone is still linking their steps from their phone or Fitbit through the Qantas Wellbeing App to get the points.

When it’s around 40 for a few days in a row there is no walking. PS guys when you go to Pilates please don’t wear baggy shorts unless you have decent underwear that keeps everything tucked away
