Crack the Case

You can do it as many times as you like, but these points do not count toward status.
I was more referring to a way for people to get cheap PC points.

So called "Mattress runs" work when you can get cheap nightly rates. Not really a viable proposition is this part of the world.
Not viable in Australia at all. It is though in the USA, Canada, Europe and some parts of Asia.

I thought they did count as you can, for example, buy sufficient points to get Gold Status.

They do count if you just buy points straight out.

If you use the points+pay option gfor a reward night, then cancel the reservation the pay part gets deposited as points - it is these points that don't count.

OK. I now understand, thanks.

Wrote email to PC about my 4 brand requirement (ie having to travelling 5000Km one-way to stay 4th brand). They wrote back that they cannot change it down to 3 brands for me .... Oh well, I am not going to try to crack the case then!

If you did not get an invite check your latest email statement, if it mentions crack the case ring the service centre, I did and got my code emailed.

I did not receive an email last month; however this week a card arrived by Snail mail (all the way from Belgium).

My "Locks" are:

  1. 10,000 Points: Opt in For E-mails (Already Unlocked )
  2. .1,000 Points: Survey (Done, not unlocked as yet)
  3. .4,400 Points: 2 Brands
  4. .3,300 Points: 2 Saturdays
  5. .5,600 points: 10 nights (not impossible)
That totals 24,300 points.

Do all 5 and I earn an additional 125,000 Points for a total of 149,300.

Hmmm... I guess this is some sort of enticement! I already have 3 Qualifying nights (including a Saturday) booked for May Ozfest, another two in NZ (One a Saturday night). Booking include CP and HI, so all I need is another 5 nights between now and then.

Strategy? I'm 3 stays away from HHonors Diamond, so I'll wrap that up this year, get a comp based on that to PC Plat and check out IHG options around and about early next year.

Still, the HHonors guaranteed free breakfast does work for me (& SWMBO).

Perhaps an RA referral might help you be swayed from Hilton, I have one coming shortly and you strike me as one who might get good value out of it ;)

Wow, I wish mine was that simple. Does show that they profiled previous stays, and based the requirements on that.

I've unlocked one of my locks, another one is just about unlocked, the third is close - but not simple, and the last one is very difficult (staying at 18 different hotels).

18 Different hotels is tough, at least its doable in Australia, I am looking at going to Taiwan next year via Shanghai just to get the 5 brands done, hoping Taiwan will have its Indigo up and running by May but I doubt it so Shanghai it is. Taiwan was always on the cards as far as trips go but this promo looks like diverting me to China.

Since I'd never had a 'qualifying' stay at an ICH property after joining PC (for 350 BP's IIRC) in late 2008, I guess this is what they are doing.

My only two nights have been rewards, a 5K point break in CHC in August and a 15K stay at a HIX in TLS last month.

I'd certainly swap my 5 brand requirement for an 18 hotel requirement

Received mine yesterday (and I had given up).

1. 2,000 points - survey
2. 3,300 points - stay 10 nights
3. 2,200 points - stay at 3 brands
4. 3,300 points - stay 2 Saturdays

Complete all four and receive an additional 82,000 points.

Can't see me getting any of those apart from the survey.

stevePER, I can't see myself cracking the case either, but you could get 1 and 3 easily enough (particularly using F&F rates for HI, CP and IC Perth - which count towards Crack the Case)

If you were going to be staying nights just to do this, then do it on Saturday nights which would knock off number 4 at the same time!

True, but I would really need the 10 nights to make it worthwhile.

Lindsay, Can I confirm that F & F rates count for stays for this promotion? Ta

Any rate counts as long as its not a reward night, dont forget Priority Privilege BOGOs which often bring the rates below F&F and also count as qualifying nights so you get points for the stay as well as the bonus at the end.

kpc, yes it has been discussed countless times on the Flyertalk thread and confirmed from the T&C's - I'd post it here but the BNE QP access is VERY slow tonight.
