Re: Velocity Amex – 80,000 points, return free flight, lounge passes, travel insuranc

Oh, I see the problem, no flash player. Is it safe to use the Adobe link on the iPad to download it?

I dont think flash works on apple products? If you tell me your origin airport I can tell youa all the destination options for the free flight if you like.

Thanks smit, I am on a PC now and can see OK. I will have to ask Apple about flash.

I have the AMEX Red Velocity, but have otherwise cancelled a few cards in the past 3 months incl the ANZ Blacks.

I don't want to get a blot on my credit file, then they say 'No', which looks bad on the file and is a problem for any next application. What's the experience with holding other c cards and this application?

There are several instances in this thread where people who hold other cards have still received the bonus points:

OK, I'm going for platinum on smit's link. Will have time later this week to concentrate on getting my story straight on the app. How soon can I have the 'free' flight? ;)

Thankyou- I appreciate your support. From my experience youll receive the card about 3 business days after applying and you can redeem your free flight immediately.

Just checked this map and from Perth it offers flights to Karratha, Port Hedland, Newman and Broome... Fairly underwhelming choicec except maybe for Broome.... I have seen some of these cards with complimentary flights and for Perth it usually always offered flights to other eastern state capitals...

Yes, the Platinum Edge I'm pretty sure offers better than that, but then again only offers 15K signon points (it is IMO a very good card for general use though).

Re: Velocity Amex – 80,000 points, return free flight, lounge passes, travel insuranc

It raises an interesting question, do you have to depart from your home port on the free flight?

Re: Velocity Amex – 80,000 points, return free flight, lounge passes, travel insuranc

I didn't think so. If you want to go to another starting city (to get a better value flight) - we were planning on doing this.

The map you linked to is old. I signed up last month, and confirmed over the phone that PER-SYD return and PER-ADL return were also available. I have already booked a PER-ADL return.

I think this map is more up to date (taken from their website) - AMXACQ1994_FlightMap_v4

Re: Velocity Amex – 80,000 points, return free flight, lounge passes, travel insuranc

So, PER - SYD good, as long as you don't want to get back again.

You can get back if you started in Perth - its a return ticket.

They don't offer Perth if you're originating in Sydney.

You can absolutely depart from any port you want.

Here's a list of the free flight destinations from the majors (I've bolded what I consider to be the best value from that major origin):

MELBOURNE TO:
Adelaide, Mildura, Hobart, Launceston, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore

SYDNEY TO:
Adelaide, Albury, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Canberra, Port Macquarie, Ballina Byron, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, Mackay, Hamilton Island, Townsville, Cairns

CANBERRA TO:
Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast

BRISBANE TO:
Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Rockhampton, Mackay, Hamilton Island, Townsville, Proserpine, Cairns

GOLD COAST TO:
Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Townsville

ADELAIDE TO:
Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Gold Coast

PERTH TO:
Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome, Newman, Adelaide, Sydney

HOBART TO:
Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane

While you can book a return flight from each of the majors above to each of the destinations listed below it, you cannot necessarily book it in the opposite direction (ie destination to origin return). Outside a sale period it would be very easy to recoup your $349 annual fee from this return flight on top of all the other benefits.

If you're after any destinations from regional origins please let me know - I wish there was an easy way to copy the list into here but there's not.
