Got my card today and I can see lounge passes in my VA account.

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum - 80,000 bonus points (confirmed for existing card holder)

Thank you to whoever used my referral, much appreciated!

For those who don't yet have this card (whether pre-existing Amex holders or not), I'd greatly appreciate the use of my referral link in my first post - enjoy those 80,000 points + other benefits : )

Is there a list anywhere that shows what stores provide 3, 2 or 1 point per $ spent? I have looked around the Amex website but can't find anything.

Thankyou- I appreciate your support. From my experience youll receive the card about 3 business days after applying and you can redeem your free flight immediately.

I've just checked my account and will clarify that the free flight was added to my account immediately after my first purchase was made.

I've only been able to find this:
• 3 Velocity Points per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- Virgin Australia
- Tens of thousands of restaurants in Australia

• 2 Points per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- Airlines, accommodation, major cruise and tour operators paid directly or through travel agencies
- Spend in foreign currency when overseas and online

• 1 Point per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- All other providers, excluding those below
- Insurances offered by American Express
• 0.5 Point per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- Utilities which are gas, water and electricity providers
- Insurance offered by companies other than American Express
- Telecommunication providers which includes goods and services purchased from phone, mobile and internet service providers
- Government bodies including the Australian Taxation Office, Australia Post, federal/state and local government bodies

Spending at restaurants, airlines and accommodation, major cruise and tour operators categories will only be eligible for increased Velocity Points if the merchant is categorised as eligible according to its merchant code. Each merchant is typically assigned a code and categorised based on what they primarily sell. For example, spend on dining within a retail department store, hotel, pub and liquor outlet may not be eligible for the additional Points for restaurants. Velocity Points are awarded on the Australian-dollar billed amount of the spend in foreign currency. Except for spend at merchants where you earn 3, 2 or 0.5 Points per $1 spent, you earn 1 Point for every $1 spent including if the purchase is made with someone other than the provider of the goods or service, for example through a third party such as a travel aggregator. The earn rate of 3 Points per $1 spent on Virgin Australia only applies to purchases made in Australia.

Re: Velocity Amex – 80,000 points, return free flight, lounge passes, travel insuranc

Thanks for the info. I suppose the info Amex provides gives you a a bit more than a general idea, but I can't help feeling its a bit vague particularly given points earn depends on the assigned code ("accommodation" and "tens of thousands of restaurants"). Looks like for those categories its a bit of trial and error. Apart from that it still provides a good earn rate on most travel expenses.

It’s strange that they aren’t promoting the 3 pp $ restaurants in that program though – I would have thought the participating restaurants would want that information to be given to card holders as a marketing tool because card holders would specifically seek out those restaurants where they received the higher point value!

My 2 lounge passes have appeared, so I expect the card any day now, then the free flight next month hopefully. Thanks smit.

What good are the lounge passes if you are already Gold ? Are they transferable ?

You can use them to guest a friend if you have more friends than guest allowance.

I think it depends on how many other recent applications appear on your credit file (unless the goal posts have changed in the last couple of years, which given the current financial climate, may well be the case). My first attempt at getting an Amex CC (Plat. Edge) was declined. For the record, I applied for and got 2 other cards within weeks, prior to my Amex application.

I'd had the same credit card for years until joining this forum and discovering how beneficial churning can be. Unfortunately, I went too hard too quick. It's all a learning experience.
