Im talking value wise. Flights to CBR are usually quite expensive given the shortish flight!!

Maybe I need to cancel a card or two first?

You know that with current credit reporting in Australia, only applications and not any cancellations are listed on your file? (Ie anyone looking at your file will not be able to see if you have ever cancelled a card you are applying for). Because of this it doesnt really make any difference if you hold or cancel the cards you already have, unless the application for the card asks you what limits and balances you currently have.

I figured with my last application being 12 months ago I was probably safe. And I didnt mention the ANZ card as I have cancelled it as of today. So it does seem that they cant see it.

In my exerperience American Express do the least amount of checking of ANY CC provider for approving applications. Unlike Citibank Amex didnt require any ID, proof of employment, or income!

Points posted instantly as soon as the qualifying spend came up on the online account (which normally has a 2-3 day lag time compared to the actual date of the spend in general)

Just another point to note, the free Virgin flight can be redeemed straight away and can be redeemed for either yourself or somebody else.
Having applied and received this card earlier this month (the card came within a few workin days of approval, so very quickly), I redeemed PER-SYD return for my wife (different name) today as I used my Platinum edge flight for myself.
Looking at the Virgin manage my booking page, the free flight is also eligible for UpgradeMe bids or points upgrades!

Are you aware that there is a limit on the number of referrals you can offer and that referrer points are capped? I'm not trying to cut your grass or anything (I don't have this card to be eligible to refer to this one)? I would just hate to see points go to waste if you hit the limit, is all.

I can assure you I've only had a few referrals come through - I'm nowhere close to the limit!
