Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Re: Qantas First Class menus

That's not very "first class" of them....

No, my first impression (could well be wrong) is it's a poor second cousin to the SYD and MEL F Lounges but still a nice lounge. I'm happy that they let me in with 3 kids and SO

Kids dont usually count for QF lounges anyway. But yes, from what I've heard it isnt quite up to MEL/SYD F lounges.

True with the kids, but the QF site states up to 2 children are allowed and I have 3 so they could deny entry - I am grateful they didn't. They have found the Rose Champagne now so 2 out of 3 ain't bad.... I'm going to sample the Napa Valley reds shortly

Too soon to be asking about the summer menu? I know Red Roo and AusBT usually advise but anyone have an ETA?

Re: Qantas First Class menus

Spring started a few days early, but yes I think it's usually the first week of a season, and a slight difference between Melbourne and Sydney. My next international flights are from mid-December but need to book some more in January before too long and have some degree of choice of morning or afternoon departures - as it stands prices and times are all fine, so whether a morning or afternoon lounge visit is better could be the swing factor!

Ok, so the duck salad is really good, just the right mix of fresh (from the cucumber) and spicy. With a glass of Petaluma Merlot this is a very enjoyable first course.

For the second course I picked a more "wintery" choice with the lamb. The dish is nothing exceptional, but has all the taste and flavours one would expect eating lamb in a North African restaurant. I started with a glass of Hentley Farm Shiraz, but the waitress suggested the Reschke Vitulus for a second glass and she was spot on!

I then went with the cheese plate: a cheddar, a goat and a blue cheese.

And I somehow decided to end it all with the Oreo cookie Sundae...

We had another great lunch yesterday. For starters we shared the salmon sashimi, the duck salad and the chicken wings. The sashimi was excellent, as was the duck salad. The wings were okay, not greasy, but we like a bit more zing. For mains we had the lamb and the chicken with noodle. We loved the lamb, and it was a nice slow cooked piece of meat. The chicken was nice, but again we like more spice. Next time I would go for the pasta. The wine in the decanter was a Penfolds Cellar Release Adelaide Hills Merlot 2010 - very good, and when it ran dry we sat on the Hentley Farm Shiraz. A much better menu than Winter.

Thanks for that - good to know.

Faith restored! This is a great menu. In a couple of visits, both in Sydney, I sampled several items and was impressed with just about all of them.

Sashimi was good, as usual. As was salt and pepper squid. Regulars so I'll take them as read.

a great surprise and very, very nice was the avocado and quinoa salad with corn. Very tasty, fresh and felt healthy.

The buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes, while small, was a great starter or palate cleanser.

the duck salad was fine, but very different to that Rugby posted about above. See pic below (I hope). While my pic implies there was more salad and very little duck, there were a few pieces. But it was overwhelmed with sprouts and the duck seemed a bit over cooked and could have been any meat, really.

I tried the chicken wings and they were great. Chips, sorry, fries, were awesome. Tasty and plenty of meat. The family next to me one day also had the American burger. While I didn't sample, it actually looked really good and I think I will next time - though I'll ask for the QF nurse to be on standby with a defribulator.

The stir fried chicken was very tasty. I addressed the lack of zing by asking for some fresh green and red chilli, which was readily supplied.

All up, a vast improvement on the previous menu and I can't wait for my next visits.

Sorry some of my pics are sideways, and not in order. I have no idea why. If a mod is able to fix the orientation I'd be grateful.
