Dalmatian Coast cruising without a dog in sight

Or perhaps Kookaburra sits in the old Gum tree. :p
Well I probably know the words to that better and the tune is the same.

Hmmm
Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said
Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover
Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six-foot-four and full of muscles
I said, "do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said
I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover, yeah
Lyin' in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
And he said......

Versus
Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,
Gay your life must be!

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gumdrops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, Stop, Kookaburra
Leave some there for me.

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, Stop, Kookaburra,
That's no monkey, that's me.

I know. I’ll download the songs and mime it! Way to go. And I’m taking vegemite so that’ll work a treat.

You could just drink a gallon of vodka and do 'Khe Sanh'

It would be fun to explain the significance or lack there of.
I’d need a gallon to sing that. Great song though and love the chorus. And we could do gravel voice Jimmy Barnes just fine. I think I need to buy some Aussie souvenirs now thinking about it.

Souvenirs bought today. Was pulled over by @Buzzard on the way home. Adelaide and all that. Had to go into the city where I avoid as it’s a complete mess with roadworks. All the tourists shops were filled with tourists and cheap Asian imports. Wanted to buy a Kangaroo thingy to attach to my bag as I think it’s good to be an Aussie in France. Could only find koala key rings and most in hideous colours like psycho green and purple. Just. Why? Settled on a yellow koala. And bought those fluffy koalas on a clip. Lovingly thought of from Australia and made in China. Sigh.

It is depressing that you can't buy Australian souvenirs made in Australia but the little key ring koalas that are about $5 for 10 always go down a treat when I travel with them. I also take the other key rings that are in the shape of Australia or have some semblance of Aboriginal art on them

I picked up a nice little badge in France of crossed Aussie and French flags (made for ANZAC Day). Seems to do the trick with the locals. :)

Oh that’s very nice. The only other place I’ve taken those koala clips was Vietnam and the local people loved them. I thought the only time I’ll need something is on the boat trip. But I did buy 2 packs so now grumpy cat will have company.

Who are you intending to give the souvenirs to? Must say, it's something I never do.

VPS IMO those Made in China pretend Indigenous designs are the worst. They are trading off traditional Indigenous art but as they are not true designs the original custodians never make anything out of them. You can buy products made by Indigenous businesses but these tend to be much more expensive (as they should be) than the cheap Chinese knock-offs.

I’ve only done it once and it really surprised me how much they were valued by the recipient. And I’m only thinking of the crew on the boat. Because of its size then we will all be very cosy! On the other hand I might bring them all home again!

I suppose it will be a case of sussing out the crew and fellow passengers to see how you feel.

It seems my threats have worked. These being that other than the bed, our bedroom will be gone tomorrow as I’m moving it all into a tiny room for the Reno’s. MrP is packing. Earliest pack time ever. (I think it also helps I’m watching Masterchef. I love Maggie Beer. She’s supposed to be on tonight. So far she’s a ‘fail to board’. And I’m over older women and their nonna business).

Last sleep and it’s been a crazy day. No power for most of it so no chores could be done that needed power. So set about shifting more furniture out of the bedroom, lounge and dining room. Arrival of the builder and manager and plaster guy. Builder is off to Bali tomorrow so site manager is the go-to. Plaster guy is fantastic and takes it all in his stride. Tomorrow while I try doing final wash the bedroom gets stripped and floor board protection laid down. Replacing carpets a week after we get back but the floorboards are a gem. Also decided we need to remove some lead light doors to open the house up more.

Oh. The trip. Apparently there is a union vote on Wednesday about the rail strikes. I will hold out until that’s known. I will expect to be drinking Pinot noir in Venice eating Pizza.

Flight departs at 10.15pm tomorrow night direct 13 hour flight to Doha. Will enjoy a leisurely dinner on board, watch a movie, grab a nightcap at the Qatar bar then lights out.

Oh wow! I bet you will enjoy that first drink on the plane and you can finally relax. No more to do at home.

It’s going to be like one of those reality shows where someone does up your place while you are away. As an old house (80 years) it has cracks. That will be gone. New ceiling in one room. And all repainted. Then a week later, new carpets.

I hope it has a good outcome! Nice to be out of the mess.

Well, an early morning phone call and number 2 son has had a car accident. Thankfully he is fine. Car - not so much. He was in the wrong as he misjudged the take off speed in heavy traffic and the guy in front was a big Ute and brutal tow bar. But the weird thing - he did not stop. Very suspicious. So had to dress quickly and get him as he had all his tools in the car. And tow for the car. It is fully insured but steep excess of $1400.

Then back to house where the timber floors were all being protected. It now looks like this

Our bedroom is in here

But I’ve washed the bedding so when we get back I can quickly set up the bedroom. It has to stay in here for a week after we get back while new carpet is laid.

Then off to do last minute invoicing.
Pretty much packed now. Waiting.
