Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I would not agree with Tasting Sessions saying The Farms is similar to the GB Filsell. Very different wine, and both very nice imo.

In saying
Similar old vine Barossa Shiraz wines with 94+ Halliday points
the review was trying to highlight the price range of similarly pointed wines, rather than stylistically similar wines.

A lot of punters have to rely on ratings as a marker of quality because they don't get the opportunity to try hundreds of wines. That's why those ratings, and wine show gongs, are so important in marketing.

Not sure I'd be posting that gift card glitch so openly though.

Very true. I waited until the gift card had been fully used up and the cash back confirmed and extracted. I've never seen anything like that happen before and I doubt it will again. I'll put it down to chaos theory ;).

Always nice to have a win. Which reminds me, I won a Wish card this week....I think it is destined to be used for wine.

McGuigan Farms Barossa Valley Shiraz

You're right that it takes time...we've got two people on this almost full time.

The example you picked out definitely isn't our best review! Looking back at my notes, we eliminated McGuigan Farms Barossa Valley Shiraz based on price as it's direct price is only $75.

We tend not to post mystery deals unless we're certain of the identity. Gretel just got frustrated with this one and wanted to put something up as she'd spent an hour trying to track it down.

Out of interest, are you still revealing the Vinofomo offers on your site?

You need to know where to look and what info to trust, the Halliday quoted price was $75, on the McGuigan site it is $105 https://www.mcguiganwines.com.au/product/301

Not just VinoMofo, many other merchants are jumping on the "mystery wine' bandwagon, some days Wine Market has more mystery wines on offer than does VinoMofo.

Most of the interesting mystery wines are identified on the wine-lover forums here as well.

Cracka runs My Wine Guy too, they don't seem to realise how quickly comparative info spreads these days. Or maybe have enough on their mailing/phone list that aren't aware.

You may be the best authority on this one RB considering your vast contacts, so, does a fairly good wine critic named Andrew Graham still have anything to do with crackawines? Furthermore, how involved was/is he in it? Cheers.

I thought he had mainly moved on from Cracka, but his LinkedIn profile still mentions an association https://au.linkedin.com/in/andrew-graham-2719413
I don't subscribe to Cracka emails, so don't know if his work features there. He used to sign-off (AG) on some Cracka Tweets, but I stopped following them a long time ago. Just checked, they have blocked me on Twitter, so can't see any more.

The Cracka YouTube channel he mentions hasn't had any recent activity. https://www.youtube.com/user/CrackaWines

This one is probably directed to Sarah Tonins better half, Prozac. You've had the Filsell as I have and you have tasted the Farms ( 1 have some put aside for later). Which do you prefer, and what price would you have been happy to pay in real dollars?

Anyone else care to compare. I had the Filsell '13 in August and really enjoyed it. Ripe cherries, fruity and smoky, sweek vanillan oak. Long mouthfeel, elegant tannins, just supurb I though FWIW.

I like them both but what I really like about the Filsell '09 is that I can taste the earth in which it has grown. It places me in the paddock when I am drinking...extraordinary feeling. To me that is a real character wine.

edit: I am really enjoying a McLaren Vale Shiraz 2014 bottled by Yangara Estate for United Cellars. It is basket pressed and crafted by the winemaker of the year Peter Fraser (http://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/ag...h/news-story/96ffc4a421b7babf0a72f2faece802e5) and Charlie Seppelt. I bought a couple of cases and I think it I paid $20/bottle. Worth more imo.

Totally a girl after my own heart.

Pretty sure that Steady isn't a girl. Or are you talking about BlackCat20?

Anyway, I used to think the same - my new(ish) neighbour (who's just left the wine industry) introduced me to some 20yo Rieslings (mostly German Mosels, some Austrian stuff) over summer. There is some great white stuff out there if you look :). Though I remain a red wine drinker at heart.

Is this code for girls?

For an every day quaffer liquorland currently has Peter Lehmann Portrait Shiraz for $8 per bottle in a 2 bottle buy. So half price. Started today. I expect many stores will sell out quickly.

Winemarket have Lindemans St George 2012 in stock for their 20% off today. Code is FRIDGEFILLER, and with cashback it's down to roughly $23.50 a bottle.

I wonder if he gets his wines from the same place he gets his televisions!!
Not sure on that one - I did buy a Kogan TV - greatest heap of s**t I had ever seen - until the techy guru kid from over the road asked 'Did you check if their an Android software update for that TV?' Smart cough - updated the software and it has worked a treat since.
