Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I actually prefer wine without a sting in the tail but there you go. Have been around for a few months but am still working on contributing as much as I get out of these forums!

My mistake. I just made a quick google search and it was "greenbottle" I recalled as the character of an old aussie radio show which I think was called "Yes What". I used to listen to it as a teenager whilst doing homework. At the risk of being banished here is the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFLIG0iVys0

Based on your info, good Doctor, was able to pick up my prescription from the local BWS clearance last week:

3x Burge Filsell 2013 @19.95ea
2x Wirra Wirra Mrs Wrigleys Grenache Rose 2015 @ $7.48ea
1x Van Gent Mudgee White Port @ $7.13

Very happy to take my meds at those PBS-style prices :)
Nice score there in the budget end CWH. The Mrs Wrigleys name was proposed by my old mate Peter Simpson when he was an owner/director at WW. He liked to name wines from his Penfolds ancestry roots. I still have some Mrs Mary left from his personal vineyard. Top bloke, sadly missed.

Boojay or budget, the Filsell is a stunning wine, and considering some of my recent fifty to sixty buckers purchases, it would easily fit in.

Of-course I meant at $19 odd the Filsell is a budget purchase and one of my favourites. Certainly what I regard as budget, which is the end of the market I operate in. ;) I have the odd case of MrGuigans Farms etc, but all bought in this budget bracket, around 20 bucks. I am a happy cheapskate beefarmer. :)

I thought Mrs Wrigley was the name of a much loved winery cat Prozac.

Also I could have sworn that it was 'Bluebottle' not 'Greenbottle ' in Yes What!

Me too, and I also bought the Farms. I am yet to try any of the six....have you had any, and if so, what's it like?

Have a listen Piker, and come back to me. :)
greenbottle it is.........classic comedy back in the day.

Dinner is over, and finishing a w.a.pinot, Byron and Harolds rose and thorns '14, one I had in feb this year that absolutely stunned me for its complexity, the same wine again in june that left me stunned as to how much it became insular. Tonight we relive old times, it's great that the pinot has come out of its shell. Damn pinots !

Musn't be too much on telly folks.

Drinking 2011 Laurance Icon bought recently for under $20 at the Ebay Grays tec sale while listening to Yes What; two classics, auditory, visual, olfactory and taste: joy to the cerebrum.
Thanks Prozac and BF.

...

Quite possibly. Just going on what Peter related to me. Perhaps he kept family names for his own vineyard. I saw the similarity and note he was a director and owner of WW.

Absolutely nothing on the telly mate.

The bottle says the name comes from the winery cat.

I did recently try one of the Farms (the 12 vintage) and really enjoyed it. In fact, I said "a quintessentially big and elegant 94/100 (4.0/5.0) from me' ... 'this is no doubt a future bargain in the making'.

Definitely one to hold on to for 7-10 years time. I can't wait to open the next 5 bottles.

I'll see your 3 x Burge Filsell 2013 @19.95ea and raise you 6 x Burge Filsell 2013 @$15 each!

BWS Rosemeadow NSW - still 12 more there.

Update: I've been back to the same store this afternoon and as at 3.40pm there were still 8 bottles of Filsell available for $15 each.

I concur. Definitely one that punches above the normally good. Wished I'd bought more.
Now waiting for the more expensive sibling MuGuigan The Philosophy to come onto wine market, Heh heh.

Similar territory to mine, very tempted to go there this weekend! It's interesting, I got mine at Bargo on a 30% off clearance, only 3 months after I bought up their filsell on a 50% clearance just like yours. Yep, they put a wine on clearance only to reorder as soon as it all sold. I'm trying to formulate a pattern amongst BWS clearance cycles and store tiers (i.e. which shops get what), will keep informed if something concrete emerges.

Meanwhile got a couple of De Bortoli Old Boys 21yo Tawny for $15 each and a Morris Tokay for $7.50 last night at BWS Tahmoor. There's quite a few more bottles of tokay there, but the 21yo was hard to leave sitting there...
