Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Is $16 a normal or reasonably common "good price" for this wine, or a bargain?

$15 is the cheapest I've seen (staff pricing). $16 appears to be the sale price for everyone else. Has come up a couple of times. Unlikely to get it cheaper than that unless it's via one of these 'rebate' type deals like the Langtons Amex deal

Good price, but not a bargain.

I paid $13.03 each in a 6-pack from Cracka recently, after welcome credit, AMEX cashback, and cashrewards.

They'd be $13.99 each if you bought 8 from WineStar with the current AMEX promo (8 x 18.99ea + 10shipping = (161.92-50)/8 = 13.99)

* edited to add, looks like I've paid $16 a couple of times in the past. $13 is my record

i am sure VM have had it for around $17.90 bottle

I think one argument is that there's better deals - on great wines that are rarely discounted - to be had with the various AMEX offers. Why waste these great offers on Seppelt wines that you can usually get for just $2-3 more a bottle on other sites, virtually all the time...

I'd stock up on both these Seppelt wines at $16 a bottle if I hadn't already. Another issue is that I currently have so much wine that I can barely get through my front door....

I agree with everything you've mentioned, except the last sentence (though my partner thinks I have far too much wine!).

Used up the amex Winestar credit on the Benevelli Piero Langhe Nebbiolo 2015 + a rizza

Great value at down to $20 a bot - Gary Walsh reviews got me in " long gently sweet finish that’s perfumed and very fine. Remarkable wine for the money. Rating: 93+ Points;"

Worth mentioning - ordered Yesterday - got today - exemplary service. Will happily sup on Fathers Day listening to Slint "Spiderland"

Fans of the 2014 Innocent Bystander Syrah might be interested to know that the 2015 Giant Steps Syrah was also rated 95pts by Campbell Mattinson on Winefront and is available for $30 from Fine Wine Merchant until next Tuesday (alternatively ask Different Drop to price-match and save an extra 10% if it's your first order from them)

$16 is the regular sale price at cellardoor.co - I only posted since last time someone did, it seemed popular iirc, which must mean it's a bargain? :)

Boccaccio had it for $15 a few months ago but sold out in less than an hour

Otherwise, cheapest ever is probably $11.60 at Cracka after referral/AmEx/Cashrewards

I think it's reasonable to assume that the majority of our regular poster's partners feel that their other half buys/owns/spends too much money on wine.

*They don't complain when you pull out a beautifully aged, fine vintage stunner that only cost you $15 though do they readers?

Well my self-imposed ban on buying lasted almost until pay day. :-|

Looking forward to this mix from Different Drop:

2013 Dell'uva Verdicchio
2013 Rieslingfreak No.7 Fortified Riesling
2016 Unico Zelo Cherry Fields Dolcetto
2016 Freeman Rondo Rosé
2015 Calabria Private Bin Saint Macaire (I've tried this previously & it's a great wine - and $15)
2015 Soumah Brachetto d' Soumah (This truly does have a chocolatey after taste - back for another meeting up with a chocolate fiend)
2016 Lino Ramble Blind Man's Bluff cougho
Semillon Stars Mixed Six Pack
2013 Bunkers The Box Tempranillo
2014 Calabria Private Bin Aglianico

And then of course got sucked in by the Malbec mix from VM. When they pick up the Star Lane Sangiovese & Hewitson Miss Harry I'll be back to no more space so don't but any more!
I must say I admire your bravery with many of these and good luck. For what it's worth, I sent back my remaining 5 bottles of Star Lane Sangiovese's 2012. Loved the Shiraz, but this one didn't grab me.

JD Cellars new secret wine, think it is the Ferngrove orchid majestic cab sav anyone tried this wine, appreciate some feedback

Theend of the working week calls for something special…Secret Wine # 74.

"Very stylish, Bordeaux-likeand structured, with a ripe, if presently rather closed and oakybouquet of small dark berries, plums and earthy, leathery undertones. Smoothand polished, its long and evenly ripened, with a seamless depth of dark berryfruit, tightly knit oak and a fine-grained, gravelly backbone finishing withpersistence, focus and a lingering earthy note."

Just bought a half case of the Lake's Folly Cabernets 2014, where as part of the closure trial 3 are under cork and 3 are under screw cap.

Watch this space- i'll let you know how hey turn out in about 20 years.

Interesting, the case of 12 I received earlier this week was all cork.

Not sure if there are any The Den members here, Innocent Bystander 2015 Pinot is $95.46/6 delivered.
Might be a good deal @ $15.91 each.

It may be in my head, but the quality has dropped since the sale, I just remember enjoying previous vintages so much more.
