I picked up a combination of Amelia Park wines....
tried the standard Cab Merlot..and well... this is a dame good wine..no wonder they used to sell out so quick at VM
I could just imagine what the Reserve would be like...but ill keep for later ...lol

It certainly is tempting me sorely that's for sure, 1847 versus 1837? I don't rightly know other than GWD having a bit of a track record for skating over the details from time to time, the link to the Jacobs Creek The Solway certainly nails it as the 1837...

I got it last time. It's definitely not an 86 point wine. It's fine. Fair value for its discounted price. Halliday might want to rescore it. Based on the Halliday scoring platform I'd say it was around 93 points.

I will add that I'm not a fan of Wills and Domain wines. There's been too many ordinary wines from them over the years. I very much doubt that I'd buy one of their wines again.

Honesty in reporting? .................. I did actually buy a doz yesterday - I figure I will print labels and affix on arrival and then try a bott - if really is a $30+ wine or something near that I will keep as mid week quaffers - if no good then I have 11 x Xmas Gifts ready to rock and roll.

And more honesty? I don't believe it will be worse than some of the vinegar I bought from VM early days.

You have to ask yourself "if it's not good enough for an emerging market" (for whatever reason) and it's being 'dumped' here at 90% off... not to mention being made 'to appeal to chinese palates'... I'm sure I could find some more red flags if I wanted to delve deeper. Or I could just point out 'Look! its a 2010!" and watch you jump in, get disappointed and then let us know all about it...

My hunch is that this stuff might be jammy-sweet and overripe. Much like I found that Lou Miranda Golden Lion, also made for the Chinese market...

Always appreciate honesty Cruiser, and I think your buying strategy is sound, I guess that GWD's return policy would cope with them being boomeranged back in any case. Didn't know VM were peddling some dodgy stuff in the beginning, I'm a recent convert so can only take comfort in the calibre of the wines I've bought in the last year and a half but there have still been a number sent back just recently where they were "over-egging the pudding"!

I've certainly got my doubts about the massive price reduction that's for sure, the 2010 vintage was definitely a cracker but made for the Chinese market? That might skew the odds against it, either way I'm guessing enough punters will have jumped on it to see it off the menu by tomorrow in any case...

Since my original link from The Australian presents some problems here is the gist:

The Solway might be retailing over $100 in HK and China but since it's below St Hugo the rrp in OZ should be <$40.
So the $13.99 is about on the high side, 65% off since it's a cleanskin.

BTW The St Hugo is $188 in HK/China. The ubiquitous "88" again
