I've just made my first purchase on the Den and with $20 off introductory offer it brought my 6 Bottles of St Hallett Single Vineyard Hampel Shiraz 2013 down to only $64 (free shipping too) haven't got a clue whether I've made a boo-boo* but the teensy bit of info I've gleaned on-line made it sound OK....

*by boo-boo I mean that I haven't knocked on Mr Hallett's cellar door for quite some time and am basing my purchase on previous drops like the Faith Shiraz or Old Block, I don't suppose any AFFers have knocked back any of the Hampel SV Shiraz? (also read reviews/references to Kalimna which is somehow reassuring...)

The St Hallett sounds tempting! I really enjoyed the 2010 St Hallet Dawkins Shiraz I received in a WM mixed 6 pack - much nicer than Faith, Blackwell or even Old Block, in my opinion.

Peter Lehmann 2010 Futures Shiraz up for the taking for $12 per bottle in a dozen buy for those on the right lists. Add $12 per case for delivery.

+1 The Dawkins single vineyard Shiraz is excellent. I had the 2010 in the same pack and went back for a dozen more under one of WM's 20% off deals. Highly recommended. Drinking well now.

+1 I found it a bit meaty upon opening but after a good decant it was fabulous. I have another couple of bottles because I bought that WM six pack 4 times over it was so good. This epicure one looks pretty decent too.

Couldn't wait for it to get any older...drinking a Filsell tonight. Mrs prozac drinking Gerry Sissingh Semillon, about $10.50 after the usual.

post a deal over at the epiqure forum: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....s/epiqure-latest-offering-42541-308.html#3075

D'ARENBERG COPPERMINE ROAD 2009 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
HEATHCOTE ESTATE SHIRAZ 2008
KATNOOK ESTATE MERLOT 2006
Wolf Blass Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
WIRRA WIRRA RSW SHIRAZ 2011
VOYAGER ESTATE 2008 CABERNET MERLOT

All of the above wines for $200 with 5000 bonus points

All these wines (with the exception of the Wolf Blass which isn't reviewed) have decent-very good scores on Wine Front could be a boom for me, the 5000 points tipping it in the right direction.

Had it over a few days - like "Pixies - Doolittle" it grew & grew on me

I can't seem to find a vintage since then, was wondering if it had been renamed as something else ???

+4 here, really surprised me. Sadly I only had one.

There's a 2013 vintage, at least. The Den has it up for $156.74/6.

It would be weird to rename a single vineyard shiraz that's named after the vineyard in question. I wonder if they only release the single vineyard wines in years when a particular vineyard shines.

Agreed with the comments about the Dawkins 2010 in any case. I have only opened one and it had precious little time to air but I thought it was very good and would get more at the same price if I could (sub $20 mind you, not RRP).

Edit: Coming back to the original subject, I suspect the Hampel is a different beast from Dawkins. From the description on the Den website, Hampel sounds like more mainstream, typical full-bodied Barossa shiraz. I'd trust it should be decent for the money (but will look forward to hearing your verdict, W&D).

If the Icon Mystery 6 comes back, I'd get that instead - it's $300 rather than $200, but has
Clonakilla SV 2014
Voyager Estate CM 2009
Heathcote Estate Single Vineyard Shiraz 2013
Peter Lehmann Stonewell 2011
Bests Bin No 0 2013
Katnook Estate Odyssey 2009

That couple of 2011s are something I would be wary of. If you like the copper mine road or woodlands why not buy just those. I despise these mixed cases as they palm off their coughpy bottles with the odd decent one.

That is a good mix. I'm tempted by the fact there are back vintages in this pack, although the more I look at it the more I think it looks like A good few expensive wines from bad vintages and perhaps $35 a bottle delivered is a bit steep even with the 5000 points kicker.

$26/btl seems about right, RRP was closer to 40 IIRC.

My records show I paid $25/btl, minus the usual discounts for an effective price of $18.40/btl. I would happily pay $25/btl if I could find another dozen.

I doubt the '13 will be as good as the '10.

Other than, perhaps, the Stonewell 2011, I think the stuff in the Mystery pack has much better vintages than the current offer. Not to mention an overall higher grade of wine.

This what The Wine Detective | Sarah Ahmed had to say about what I presume is the same wine (but earlier vintage) as there's bugger-all out there on-line...[h=2]St Hallett Single Vineyard Series Hampel Pipeline Shiraz, Kalimna 2009[/h]Kalimna tends to be flatter than Greenock with sandy loam soils and, for Cox, this makes for more mouthfilling tannins. Indeed, despite the somewhat unseductive name, this is a seductive, expansive wine with plenty of weight in the mouth and a hint of savoury black treacle to its black berry and cherry fruit. Powerful, textured tannins keep this hearty Shiraz in check. Again, very good.
