Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Hey All
I am looking at using the last of my boccaccio offer
Which of these would you think would cellar the longest?

Cullen Diana Madeline 2014 $115
Sally's Paddock 2013 $85.00
Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2012 $85.00
Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2014 $73.50
Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2015 $90.00

What would you guys recommend to spend $420? I've already got 2 clonakilla's though from my previous order and 3 st Henri's
cheers

I guess which cellars the longest out of those options depends on what you are looking for in a cellared wine. The 2014 Diana is a seriously impressive drop and IMO could go 10+ years without descending into a flabby, stewed fruit mess (but I like my wines younger). I've had great success with older 389s too, and this vintage was considered standout, although I haven't tasted any of my bottles yet.

According to Sir JH it's the St Henri, but I think it depends on what style you prefer aged, and how long you intend to stick around waiting for it:

Cullen Diana Madeline 2014 - Drink by 2044
Sally's Paddock 2013 $85.00 - Drink by ????
Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2012 - Drink by 2047
Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2014 - Drink by 2044
Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2015 - Drink by 2030

It's always a bit of a guesstimate but I would expect each of these to go for at least 20 years:

Cullen Diana Madeline 2014 $115
Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2012 $85.00
Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2014 $73.50

Hahah, I often wonder if anyone seriously adheres to JH's drinking windows. I'm a fairly young fella, but some of my wines he recommends drinking after my retirement...

All I can say is it will be worth the wait.

There's immeasurable enjoyment when you pull out of the cellar a great wine from the 1960's or 1970's.

I adhere to them as strictly as I can, because the dates he gives are essentially his guess at best-before dates. That's an important distinction. Waiting until those dates will not in general give the best results, though if you like wine very well aged they give an idea of approximately how far you might be able to safely push it.

These Langtons deals are great... 2 separate orders arrived today.. $150 off each order and extra $50 off from my broker email.. $500 spent for 13 bottles.. 1 x Premium 6 pack and 7 x Mt Pleasant Rosehill

Don't know about that but a wine advisor suggested to me that you should take 2-3 points of JH ratings to bring them in-line with other wine reviewers. Compare a review of JH and HH and see HH closer to the mark.

Now, here's my opportunity to try and cover up my public guff earlier. And pretend my earlier post (below) was in anticipation of QF WPs post above!! I'd agree with Steady. The OP&OH 14 (not the 13) and the Hares Chase 13 would be my picks.

Perfect. I'll look at them over the weekend...

Langtons aren't really a go-to for cheap quaffers. You're better off at DM for that.

True, but that is from where my offer emanates, so off to Langtons I go...

But at 50% off you can get some decent high-end Aussie stuff like Diana Madeline or Clonakilla, or go a bit off-piste and get some Bordeaux, Champagne, Burgundy or Barolo. They have a decent selection, and at 50% off you probably won't find cheaper elsewhere.

Otherwise they have the Turkey Flat 2014, Tolpuddle Pinot etc that are in the 2016 Halliday Top 100.

But for mine, given you have $350, I'd look for 3 x bottles around the $120 mark (use the search function and limit teh price to $100-150), or 6 x around the $60 mark, and get a few things you wouldn't otherwise buy, but get good reviews. Won't take up much space, but hopefully should reward you in a few years time.

If I were still single (or divorced, I remember that time as well), I'd be all over your suggestions, however my wife will want to have input as she will also be drinking. She'd choke on expensive wine...plus there is no space in my wine fridges. Really need to have some people around to help me drink them down ;)...

Don't you love it when you order more expensive wine from DM online and get to the store for pickup to find they have substituted the vintage. I've also recently been finding their store and online prices differing too.

Even their online prices can differ depending on which store you select.
