I was going to give them a miss, but then they also tempted me with my favorite scotch ... Lagavulin for $80!

407 has become very overpriced, like all Penfolds wines. I'd look to buy under $40 only.

Fortunately I have a very large supply of back vintages of the 407 so can afford to wait for the perfect price.

I just don't get the Bin 407. Tried various vintages multiple times and yet to be impressed. Even at $30 - $40 it isn't value for me.

I fully understand both - 407 at $44.63 today and 389 at ~$47 in next month or two - well I am happy to cop both of those - ALL AFFers always welcome to share a bottle from my cellar in my house anytime - and you guys can make the choice too - what's that? - you don't like Penfolds? - well ok just move along - nothing to see here.......

Ah ok - thanks for clarifying Tommy - that product actually makes a a fabulous unisex gift for bdays etc for grown ups - I think I still have a bout 10 or so in cellar - they did it in a black cover also at one point in time.

Two totally different beasts though. I just don't think 407 is a good example of what Cabernet should be. I do love Cabernet, just not 407.

The 389 is a Shiraz/Cab blend with lashings of American oak. That style isn't to a lot of peoples liking.

This is what makes wine great though IMHO. The differences in what people like and the discussion that goes with it
