Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Revisiting Penfolds pricing for a moment - clearly nobody in their right minds will pay retail list prices but still chances do appear - on Apr 7 this year i bought a doz 2012 389 from Dan's at sub $58 - is that not value? Didn't a bunch here climb all over the 2013 / 2014 St Henri through CM last year at about $38ea after the $10/$100 discounts? I ended up with 18 of those. 407 was on special at a very reasonable rate early last year at Dan's also - I have good supply Penfolds in the Cellar and will continue to do so whilst procurable at these prices.

To add to this I have picked up RWT 2015 (?) at sub-$100 prices through CM, which is a very appropriate price.

RRPs are a stretch for Penfolds, but hardly alone in this regard; consider Grant Burge Meshach/Shadrach for example. Plenty of wineries going down this route to try and segment the market a little bit. IMO it's distasteful and perhaps a bit short-sighted as consumers move to better value wines due to intimidating (but rarely realised) RRPs.

However, their top end wines are still fantastic, often exemplary, all the grimy sales tactics in the world doesn't change that.

Has anyone tried the 2018 Majella Rose - I can't remember which vintage I had and I liked it but this looks a bit bright pink - I like a very pale French style dry rose

This is the price before WISH card etc? It's frequently around that price. It is a huge discount off the headline price, but given how frequently it's available at large discounts this isn't a great price for me. But if you don't have any, it's probably worth that price.

Closer to $70 is possible and my target price.

Tks for posting weiluo - this is a great wine and that is a very keen discount - as Doc says throw in GC and CR and there is about another $10 to come off the $84.50 making it a great price!

Thanks Dr Ralph, will be patient. Just bought this instead:

$77.83/btl after discounts, depending how CR tracks for you.

My target price for this wine is $77.45/btl.

Perhaps next time. ;)

Cashrewards and gift cards
You can use cashrewards or ShopBack to buy Woolworths gift cards for 5% off, and if you click through them you can get 3.5% Cashback after a few weeks.
We all use it here.

I ended up using my CELLARDOOR.CO credit on some ‘12 Wynn’s Black label Cab @ $24/bottle. I know they have been cheaper in the past but I didn’t have any and am happy at that price

Apologies if this is a silly question (newbie here) but what are GC and CR?
The extra discounts we normally use for purchases at Dan Murphys involve WISH cards or CG (gift cards) which can be had at a 5% or better discount and any other cash back scheme which is available. EG CR for cashrewards or shopback. The value of these does fluctuate. At present cashrewards would be another 3.5% but shopback is slightly better at 4%.

Referrals are available if you are not already a member of either of these schemes:

Appreciate the explanation. I'll be looking into it. Cheers.

Finewineco have $50 off $150 spend... Bought the Rockbare Tempranillo down from $300 to $90/ doz plus some Yangarra and TeMata to round it off...

Hi guys,

Any thoughts on Watershed Awakenings CB available at GWD for $30 a bottle?

I bought some but don't think it's really worth it. It has been around for cheaper but I don't think it will anymore with the new owners. Much better and cheaper wines have been around such as the Clarendon Hills brookman range when that was closer to $13/bt a few months back at dans.
In all honesty I preferred the $10 watershed senses range over the $30 stuff

Thanks Wickad for the quick response.
